Chapter 1482
Another stretch of quiet passed.
After several minutes, Brandon turned his chair around and left the lounge.
Myron watched him disappear down the corridor, his expression unreadable.
Soon, the others filtered back into the lounge, and the room filled once more with voices and movement as they continued to wait.
Outside, the sun slipped toward the horizon, painting the sky with warm shades of orange as day melted into evening. A small flock of birds glided past the window, chirping gently.
A soft breeze danced through the branches outside, casting moving shadows across the hospital floor.
When Millie opened her eyes again, this tranquil scene greeted her.
Golden light filled the room, and Myron sat nearby with Ari on his lap, reading softly to her.
When Millie shifted slightly, Myron’s head lifted at once, and he smiled.
“Millie, you’re awake,” he said, his tone warm and careful.
Ari leaned forward with a bright grin. “Mom!” she called out joyfully.
Millie looked at them through soft, drowsy eyes and gave a small smile.
“Yes,” she answered gently, gazing at them with quiet affection.
In the lounge outside her hospital room, Nicole and Helga whispered over something, and Millie could also hear Alexia’s lively chatter mixing with Charles’ voice.
Everyone was close by, surrounding her with warmth and comfort.
The commotion from inside the hospital room caught the attention of everyone outside, and they soon came rushing in. This time, Millie remained awake much longer than she had before.
Myron raised her bed so she could sit up comfortably and offered her some warm water to soothe her.
“Millie, how are you feeling now?” Alexia asked, her voice full of concern.
“I’m not sure,” Millie answered quietly, still feeling groggy from just waking up. “But it feels wonderful to see everyone again.”
Everyone agreed with gentle nods and smiles.
They chatted with her about all sorts of things, though Millie mostly nodded or answered with only a few words. Speaking still took a lot out of her.
After the initial excitement faded, Nicole finally approached. Her eyes were swollen and watery.
“Millie…” Nicole gripped her hand, holding on as if she might never let go.
Memories of everything that happened before flashed through Millie’s mind, and she struggled to find the right words. She almost called Nicole “Mom,” but worry about being turned away like always stopped her.
Realizing the moment was private, everyone else quietly slipped out of the room, leaving the two of them alone. The door shut, giving Millie and Nicole some much-needed privacy.
Millie faced Nicole, who stood right in front of her.
