Chapter 1514
The waiters, swamped with nosy questions from the crowd, could only shrug and shake their heads.
“They’re just eating like normal people,” one of them said. “Nothing sneaky going on under the table. Myron and Millie sat side by side, Brandon across from them, totally chill, no fireworks or awkward vibes at all.”
Sure enough, Brandon had ordered some dishes that Millie used to cook for him back in the day. Even after years together, he hadn’t really paid much mind to what she liked. But Myron jumped in and tweaked the order on the digital menu.
“She’s still in the thick of her recovery,” Myron told Brandon gently. “There’s a bunch of stuff she has to steer clear of right now.”
Brandon glanced at Millie and gave a quick nod. His eyes drifted down to her legs. “What are the doctors saying? Any chance they’ll get back to how they used to be?”
“Yeah,” Millie answered with a nod. “I’ll be able to stand up bit by bit, but getting fully back on my feet will take months and means watching every little thing I do.”
Brandon nodded again. “That’s great to hear.”
As the plates started arriving one after another, Myron effortlessly fixed things up for her just the way she needed. Brandon tightened his fist under the table, but that was as far as it went. He stared down at his own empty plate, realizing their little back-and-forth was worlds apart from what he and Millie used to share, showing just how much things had shifted. Back then, she had always bent over backward for him.
The meal wrapped up pretty fast, without any fuss, just an ordinary lunch.
After they finished, Brandon stepped outside for a moment. Myron reached over and gave Millie’s shoulder a reassuring pat. She got the hint and gave a little nod. Brandon and Myron slipped away to a quiet corner nearby.
Nobody ever found out what the two of them talked about; all anyone saw was the pair walking out side by side a bit later. As they got back to the entrance of the private room, Myron leaned in and said something to Brandon. From far off, just one word floated through the air: desserts.
A little while later, Myron wheeled Millie out of the restaurant. Brandon stayed put, all by himself in the empty private room.
Eugene walked in and caught Brandon gazing at the half-eaten plates, deep in his own world.
“Mr. Watson?” Eugene said softly, trying to snap him out of it.
Brandon finally lifted his eyes to meet Eugene’s. “Write down everything we ordered today,” he said calmly.
Eugene nodded, catching on quick.
“And round up details on all kinds of sweets from everywhere around the globe. Put it all together for me,” Brandon added.
Eugene raised an eyebrow inside but kept a straight face, no questions asked, and right away got his team on it.
When Myron brought Millie back to JM Investments, she spotted the chatter blowing up online. She shot Myron a curious side-eye.
