Chapter 1515
“What exactly did you tell him?” Millie asked, tilting her head.
Myron arched an eyebrow and shut the office door with a soft click. “I saw he still didn’t have a clue what you really like, so I let him know you’re crazy about desserts, especially the ones from that little shop downstairs at the Elliott Group. You and Ari both go nuts for it.”
Millie shot him a playful glare, but yeah, she totally had a sweet tooth.
Myron let out a low chuckle and settled down right next to her. “I still remember the first time you swung by the Elliott Group. I walked you out, and we passed that little shop.”
Millie looked at him, eyes sparkling with interest.
Myron grinned, reaching over to gently poke her cheek. “They had just pulled a fresh batch of baked goods out of the oven. You were chatting away with me, but your eyes kept sneaking over there,” he said, laughing softly at the memory. “I stood back and watched for a bit after we said goodbye, and then saw you dart inside and come out with a huge bag of goodies. You looked so over the moon, that’s when it clicked for me.”
What Myron kept to himself was how thrilled he had felt uncovering those little gems about her. He had sampled every dessert that shop had to offer, picked out the ones that hit the spot, and brought them back for her, every time, she lit up like a kid. Little by little, he pieced together more of her quirky likes. Like how she loved peeling shrimp with her own hands and popping them straight in her mouth, always super fresh, usually on skewers. She adored bright sunny days and offices with massive French windows, where she would pause just to soak in that endless blue sky. She slept best on a mattress with some firmness, pillows propped up just a bit. Piece by piece, he mapped out her habits and favorites, and honestly, he couldn’t get enough of the whole treasure hunt.
Thinking back on it all brought a warm smile to Myron’s face.
Millie caught him still poking her cheek and reached up, grabbing his face to pull it closer. Myron poked again, and she tugged right back, stretching his cheeks out wide. Before they knew it, they had kicked off this goofy tug-of-war, just like that silly breath-holding showdown they’d had before.
When Taylor knocked and poked her head in, she froze at the ridiculous sight.
“Sorry, I’ll come back,” Taylor stammered, spinning around and shutting the door fast.
Out in the hall, Taylor stopped for a second, then cracked up laughing, earning a few puzzled stares from folks walking by.
Not long after, Myron stepped out and glanced at Taylor. “I’m heading back now,” he said.
“Goodbye, Mr. Elliott,” Taylor replied quickly, biting her lip to keep the giggles in check.
Scanning the area to confirm they were alone, Myron said, “You didn’t see anything in there, did you?”
