Jordyn’s eyes lit up as she thought of that.

“Dad, Mom, my school holiday is coming up soon. Let’s go on a trip together! We can go abroad, or we can go rafting. I want to be away for at least half a month!” She said excitedly.

How could they possibly go on a trip together? And for that much time.

Trevor spoke first before Celeste could say anything.

“I happen to have some business to take care of overseas in a while. You can come with me then, and I’ll take you sightseeing.”

Jordyn frowned. “What about Mom? Isn’t Mom coming?”

Celeste answered, “I’m very busy with work. So, I probably won’t have the time.” Immediately feeling dissatisfied, Jordyn asked, “Not even a few days?”

Celeste didn’t know how to explain it to her. She could only say, “We’ll have to see how things are then. If I have the time, I’ll let you know, okay?”

“…Okay.”

Although Celeste said that, Jordyn already understood her meaning. Her mother probably wasn’t going to travel with her and her father after all.

She often felt that her mother cared deeply about her. Yet at other times, she felt that her mother didn’t care much at all because she always seemed to be brushing her off.

Even though she knew her mother cared about her, her mood would inevitably sink every time she sensed that Celeste was merely humoring her.

She felt that if Celeste could brush her off and place work ahead of her, then perhaps her mother didn’t care about her as much as she claimed.

Trevor looked toward Celeste after noticing what was probably going through Jordyn’s mind.

“Even if your mom doesn’t have time for a long trip, we can still find opportunities to go out more often during your school holidays.

What Jordyn truly wanted was reassurance that Celeste cared about her. And deep down, she did believe that Celeste cared.

Then she turned to Celeste and added, “But Mom, you have to keep your promise, okay? You have to take me out often during my school holidays.”

Celeste paused briefly. “Okay.”

After hesitating for a moment, Jordyn finally couldn’t hold it in any longer.

She asked carefully as she looked up at Celeste, “Mom, can you come home with Dad and me tonight? I bought a lot of new things, but you haven’t seen any of them. Can you come home and spend some time with me?

There was hope and caution in Jordyn’s eyes. It was as if she were afraid of being rejected.

Celeste felt a sharp ache in her chest after seeing that look. After a moment, she said, “Okay.”

Jordyn’s eyes immediately lit up the moment she agreed. She looked genuinely happy for the first time that evening.

Just then, the waiter arrived with the dishes.

Jordyn stood up in delight and repeatedly picked food for Celeste.

“Mom, hurry up and eat! Once we’re done, we can go home!”
