Besides, Jonathan just wanted to give Michael the best life possible. That was a good thing, and Teresa really had no reason to refuse. There were some things only Jonathan could give Michael, things she simply couldn’t provide.
Jonathan snapped his fingers in front of her. “What are you thinking about? Come on, let’s eat.”
“I’m not really hungry today. I just want to rest for a bit,” Teresa said.
“You can’t just skip meals. Did something happen?” Jonathan called after her as she disappeared into the bedroom.
Jonathan just stared, at a total loss for words.
Teresa went to take a shower. She hadn’t slept well at Jennifer’s place last night, so she quickly freshened up and changed into a comfortable outfit.
When she came out of the bathroom, she spotted two brand new car keys on the table–one for a Porsche, the other for a McLaren.
Puzzled, she picked up the keys and went to ask Jonathan about them.
Jonathan looked completely calm. “One’s for you, and the other one is for Mike. I promised I’d get a sports car for him. You can drive for now, and when he turns eighteen, you can hand it over to him.”
Teresa, stubbornly trying to save face, said, “I have a car. It’s just in for maintenance. It’ll be back tomorrow.”
Jonathan shot her a look. “Where is it for maintenance? You mean the junkyard?”
Wait, how the heck does he know about that?‘ Teresa thought.
Jonathan said slowly, “Mike told me everything. Jennifer drove your car, and it was wrecked.”
Teresa was stunned. ‘Seriously? That little rascal actually spilled everything to Jonathan?‘ she thought.
Jonathan handed her a fork, expressionless. “Just eat first. Worry about everything else after you’ve eaten. Pregnant and still going out every day? Stop being restless.”
Teresa didn’t argue back. This was the first time they’d eaten alone together at Rosary Estates.
Jonathan picked up some beef he’d cooked and put it on her plate, telling her to
eat more.
Teresa pushed the car keys back to him. “I can get myself a new car. Thanks anyway.”
Jonathan was speechless for a moment. “Look, I’ve already bought it. And there’s no way I’m driving a pink Porsche. I’m a grown man, you know. If you don’t drive it, it’s just going to sit there and collect dust.”
Teresa asked, “So, where’s the car?”
“It’s parked downstairs.”

Teresa put down her fork and hurried over to the window. There was indeed a pink Porsche Cayenne parked right at the entrance of the neighborhood.
Some neighbors passing by couldn’t help but steal a few glances, and some even stopped to snap some photos.
Teresa sighed. “It’s way too flashy.”

Teresa was speechless. ‘That one’s even more over the top! If I drive a sports car around, everyone will think I’m just showing off. How can I show up at work like that?‘ she thought.
Jonathan gave up. “Fine, I’ll order you a white Cayenne instead.”
Teresa shook her head. “Forget it. Don’t waste your money.”
Jonathan suddenly went quiet, remembering what she’d written in her letter–how tough it was to run a household until one had to do it themselves.
He shook himself out of his thoughts. “That pink one actually looks pretty nice.”
“It does look nice, but it’s just way too flashy. People are definitely going to gossip,” Teresa said.
“Let them gossip. Since when do you care so much about what people say, huh?”
This time, Teresa fell silent for several seconds. “I… I don’t know.”
She couldn’t remember when she started caring so much about what others thought of her. Slowly but surely, she had become more timid and hesitant over the years.
The fearless courage she had in her early twenties was gone. She had changed. Now she always worried about how people might judge her.
“As long as you feel good driving it, no need to care what anyone else thinks, right?” Jonathan said as he ladled her some soup.
