After a few hours , Teresa was finally back in Nareigh . At the airport , Jennifer was waiting , blocking her way . Teresa had no idea how Jennie en found her , and tried to brush past , but Jennifer grabbed her wrist and pulled her straight
o the car .
Jennifer questioned , “ Sanford told me his friend Chase said he saw you and Jonathan having dinner together in Shaville . And now junathan’s out there telling people he’s divorced and raising two kids on his own .
“ What’s going on , Teresa ? Did you finally come clean, or are you two meeting up again ? ”
“ Can you not , Hannah ? Seriously , can you just stop meddling in my life ? You promised that if I came back to Nareigh , you’d let me handle things myself Can’t you keep your word for once ? ”
Teresa’s face was cold , while Jennifer felt her chest tighten with frustration . “ I said I’d stay out of it as long as you were doing the right thing
“ But you keep getting tangled up with your ex , over and over . I’m your sister – I can’t just sit back and watch you ruin your life , ”
“ Oh , you think I’m ruining my life ? Well , get ready , because I’m about to make it worse . I was just about to tell you – I’m going to tell Jonathan the truth about Mike . ”
“ What did you just say ? ”
“ This time , no matter what you say , I’m telling him everything . You’ve got Donald on your side , so you’ve got nothing to lose . ”
Before Teresa could finish , Jennifer’s fingers went ice – cold as she gripped Teresa’s hand tight . “ You can’t do this to me ! If you tell him , it’s over for all of us . Seriously , everything will be over . Irene will snatch the kid away – she’ll do anything to get her way .”
“ Enough , ” Teresa said . “ Yeah , I’m worried Irene might try to take my son , but I’ve thought it through . The Lynn family always thought Jonathan and I split because we couldn’t have kids .
“ If I tell them the truth now , maybe – just maybe – their relatives will finally push Irene to accept me , maybe even respect me for once . ”
Jennifer was speechless . “ Seriously ? You think having a kid will change anything ? You and Jonathan are divorced . Irene never respected you or me , never respected any woman from the Johnston family . Why are you so eager to walk into her trap and let her humiliate you ? ”
“ And why should she get to look down on me ? I gave her son a child ,, and I’m pregnant with another one right now .”
“ So what , you think that’s something to brag about ? You really think Irene will suddenly accept you and Jonathan because of this ? You’re way too naive , Teresa . Did you leave your brain in Shaville ? ” Jennifer was so exasperated she didn’t even know what to say anymore .
Teresa didn’t want to argue anymore . “ I’ve made up my mind . Just pull over somewhere . I need to go pick up Mike from Miriam’s place . ”
Jennifer frowned , “ You’re always like this . The second someone says something you don’t like , you shut down . You never listen until you hit a wall .
“ Your life is finally peaceful , but you just have to stir up trouble for everyone , don’t you ? Our family cares about you , but you act like we’re your enemies . ”
“ Yeah , I’m just heartless like that . Happy now ? I came back in a good mood , and you’ve ruined it . Stop the car , or I’ll jump out . ”
Teresa’s hand was already on the door handle . Seeing this , Jennifer slammed on the brakes , making the car lurch . Teresa was reckless , but Jennifer wasn’t about to let her do something stupid .
Teresa slammed the door and strode away without looking back . Jennifer stared at her retreating figure , gripping the steering wheel so hard her knuckles turned white . She was really pissed off .
Teresa might be lost in her own world , but Jennifer saw things clearly – if the truth about Mike came out now , nobody’s life would be peaceful .
With the way things were between Donald and Jonathan , and Donald’s parents always wary of Jonathan’s money , Jennifer’s own wedding might be off the table . She hadn’t even gotten the marriage certificate yet .
