Teresa struggled to sit up in bed , answered the phone , and took a sip of water to soothe her throat . “ Hey , you’re back ? ”
“ Just landed at the airport , I’m coming over to see you now ,” Jonathan said .
“ No need to rush . Just come to Rosary Estates at eight , ” Teresa replied , rubbing her still dizzy head . “ I’m still at the office , haven’t gone home yet .
“ Alright .” Jonathan paused for a couple of seconds . “ What’s up with your voice ? Did you catch a cold ? ”
Teresa pressed a hand to her tight chest , took a breath , and said , “ No , probably just talked too much in meetings this afternoon . My throat’s a bit hoarse Anyway , I’ve got things to handle here . I’ll hang up now . ”
She forced herself to eat a little and drink some water , and then went to rewash herself . Looking at her pale , exhausted reflection in the mirror , Teresa thought , ‘ If Jonathan saw me like this , he’d definitely start overthinking !
Propping herself up , she sat at her vanity , did her hair and makeup , and put on some lipstick to look less washed out . Her phone rang again , and Teresa picked up .
“ I’m downstairs . Are you coming down , or should I come up ? ” Jonathan asked .
Teresa glanced at the time – it was only six thirty . “ Didn’t I tell you to come at eight ? ”
“ I went to your office to find you . The security guard said you didn’t show up today . Why did you lie to me ? ”
Teresa hadn’t expected him to actually go to Teresouth Group . She finally said , “ I wasn’t feeling well today , so I didn’t go in . I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to bother you if you were busy . ”
“ I’m not busy at all . I just want to know what it is you really want to say to me . ” Jonathan pressed .
Teresa was silent for a few seconds . “ Give me five minutes . I’ll come down , ” she said at last . After all , there were still some of Michael’s things at home .
“ Alright . ” Jonathan’s Maybach was parked downstairs , its headlights gleaming in the night .
When Teresa walked over , Jonathan let out a sigh , opened the passenger door , and handed her a bag of medicine . As he did , his hand naturally rested on her forehead – she wasn’t running a fever .
“ I got you some throat lozenges , and something for a fever . If you need anything else , just let me know . ”
“ It’s just a minor cold . I’m fine now , ” Teresa said , glancing up at him . She saw Jonathan staring at her intently and quickly looked . your work ? ”

Jonathan made a sound of acknowledgment , still watching her . “ You told me to come back today . Like I’d dare not come back . So , what did you want to say to me ? ”
“ I’m sorry . ”
Those two words , so calm and quiet , made Jonathan’s heart sink . “ You called me back just to say that ? What exactly are you apologizing for this time ? ”
“ Because … I wanted to give you this . ” Teresa slowly took a jewelry box out of her pocket and handed it to him .
Jonathan opened it . His eyes flashed , then his brows furrowed in disbelief . He took out the ring and examined it closely .
Then he got the truth . “ This is my wedding ring from when we got married . Didn’t you throw it into the river ? ”
He still remembered that day . She had grabbed his hand and tossed his ring into the river . There was a splash , ripples spreading across the water as the ring sank .

The memory was still vivid . His initials were still engraved on the inside .
“ When the tide went out , the ring washed right up to my feet . So I just picked it up , ” Teresa said .
Jonathan clenched the ring tightly and let out a cold laugh . “ You really think I’ll believe that ? ”
