Jonathan’s expression darkened as he snapped his gaze to Christian .
Christian stood stunned for a few seconds , then quickly stared at Sherry’s belly . He asked , “ Are you pregnant ? Am I going to be a dad ? How could I not know about this ? ”
Sherry replied , “ I went for the ultrasound alone this morning . I just got the results on my phone . I’m six weeks pregnant . I haven’t had the chance to tell you yet . ”
Christian gripped Sherry’s hand tightly , tears streaming down his face – he couldn’t tell if it was from excitement or something else . He murmured , “ This is wonderful . ”
Jonathan rested his forehead against his fingers , watching the scene with icy disdain . He sneered , “ Being a father feels wonderful , doesn’t it ? Does that mean my son could just be ignored ? He doesn’t even get to know his real father ? ”
Sherry stroked her belly and said , “ Mr. Lynn , we were wrong , both of us . For the sake of our upcoming wedding and the baby I’m carrying , please , spare our little family of three .
“ Ever since Christian left the company , we’ve barely been in touch with Teresa . If you don’t believe me , you can ask her yourself . We were hardly involved in any of this . Now , Christian and I just want a quiet , ordinary life together . ”
Jonathan’s face was utterly devoid of warmth . He thought , ‘ Who doesn’t want a simple life ? I don’t even dare to hope for that
anymore . ”
Christian patted Sherry’s hand gently and said , “ You should leave first . I will apologize to Mr. Lynn alone . ”
Sherry clung to Christian’s hand and said , “ You shouldn’t be here . This is all my fault . I told you not to get involved in this mess . Now that everything’s come to light , I’ve ruined your life . I’m so sorry , Christian . ”
Christian looked at Jonathan and said , “ Mr. Lynn , do whatever you want with me . Even if you throw me in jail , I won’t complain . But please , for the sake of my pregnant wife , don’t hold her accountable . I’m begging you , Mr. Lynn . ”
Jonathan’s sneer deepened , his eyes growing colder . He thought , ‘ How amusing , Playing the loving couple , are we ? He cast a condescending glance at Sherry’s hand pressed protectively against her belly .
Sherry’s face was deathly pale – perhaps the strain was taking a toll on her pregnancy . Tears welled in her eyes as she clung desperately to Christian’s hand , refusing to let go .
In her gaze burned an unshakable resolve : whatever happened , she would stand by Christian through it all.
Jonathan stood up , turning away with chilling indifference . He demanded , “ Get out , all of you . Never show your faces to me again .
Christian said , “ Mr. Lynn , I’ll leave Nareigh for good . I wish you good health , and may Mike grow up happy and strong .”
Sherry wiped away her tears and said , “ Mr. Lynn , Christian and I will be leaving Nareigh together . I wish you and Mike all the best . ”
Jonathan didn’t glance back . His tall figufe cast a solitary , imposing silhouette .
Christian carefully supported the pregnant Sherry as they slowly walked away , one step at a time .
Jonathan remained alone in the room for a long time , lost in his thoughts . Just as he was about to leave home for the hospital , he heard footsteps in the hallway grow steadily closer .

Cheryl stepped out of the car , glancing anxiously back at Donald , who was still parking by the entrance . She urgently motioned for him to hurry – she didn’t dare to face Jonathan alone .
When Cheryl stood her ground in front of Jonathan , she called , “ Jonathan . ”
Jonathan’s gaze fell on the baby girl cradled in Cheryl’s arms . He let out a sudden , mocking laugh and asked , “ Where’d you borrow this kid from ? ”
He sneered inwardly , “ Do they all think a child is some kind of leverage against me ? ”
Cheryl gritted her teeth and said , “ This isn’t a borrowed child . She’s my daughter , Serena , ”
