Jonathan’s eyes turned icy . “ How long are you gonna keep this from me ? You’re six months pregnant . Why didn’t you tell me right away ? Why do you always keep me in the dark ? ”
Teresa finally looked at him and shot back , “ Why should I tell you ? We’re divorced . ”
“ So what if we’re divorced ? I’m Mike’s dad , and I’m also the father of the baby you’re carrying . I have the right to know about this , Jonathan said , hid voice cold , with a hint of desperation .
“ It’s not yours , ” Teresa shot back , turning her back to him in a huff .
Jonathan didn’t get mad ; instead , he actually laughed . “ Not mine ? What , is it a ghost’s then ? I did the math – springtime , when we were basically sharing a bed every night . ”
“ You’re full of it , ” Teresa replied , still keeping her cool .
Jonathan fixed his gaze on her , sounding absolutely certain . “ Was it that night ? The one when you told me we should have a kid – remember ? ”
“ I never told you we should have a kid . I said we already had one . You just heard what you wanted to hear . How was I supposed to know you’d skip protection that night ? ” Teresa couldn’t help but sit up , glaring at his smug face .
Jonathan raised an eyebrow , looking a bit confused . “ So , were you trying to tell me about Mike that day ? ”
“ I don’t know . ” Teresa rolled her eyes , still sulking . “ I forgot . ”
Jonathan was pissed off . “ You remembered everything a minute ago , and now you suddenly forgot ? Why can’t you just be straight with me ? You should’ve told me last night that you were pregnant . If you had , I wouldn’t have almost gone overboard with you . ”
Teresa snorted . He really had almost gone too far with her last night in bed . At the time , she thought , ‘ Whatever , just finish me off . At least then I wouldn’t have to deal with all this mess . ‘
Just thinking about how he almost ended up hurting their baby last night made Jonathan feel a wave of regret . He hadn’t even bothered to slow down or be careful .
“ Good thing our baby turned out fine . Remember when I took you to that expert ? He said you were pregnant , but you kept insisting you’d taken contraceptive pills , ” Jonathan said , every detail coming back to him now .
“ You thinkt wanted to get pregnant ? ” Teresa fired back . “ I was planning to take the pill that day , but then my mom had to go to the hospital and I got caught up with that . I didn’t even have time to buy it .
“ Who would’ve thought just one time would do the trick ? ”
By the time she found out she was pregnant , she just couldn’t bring herself to go through with an abortion .
Jonathan took a deep breath . “ I remember you gave me a report saying you weren’t pregnant . That was Jennifer who did it , right ? You had her fake it for you – again , didn’t you ? ”
Teresa finally snapped and yelled , “ Yeah , I had her fake it . I had everyone lie to you . I’m guilty as charged . Just kill me already . ”
Jonathan was speechless for a moment . “ I’m not here to blame you . I just want to get to the bottom of everything . I need to know the whole story . ”
“ Yeah , that’s exactly what you think . I hid the truth . I’m beyond redemption , ” Teresa muttered , yanking the covers over her head .
Jonathan and Teresa stayed locked in that standoff for a long moment before he finally managed to pull the covers off her head . Sure enough , her eyes were red and puffy . He licked his lips .
