Jennifer would never lower herself to beg Jonathan for forgiveness .
“ Mr. Foster , I know I’ve made mistakes before , but I sincerely hope you’ll give me one more chance , ” Jennifer pleaded .
“ It’s not that I won’t give you a chance , but you’ve left me no choice . Go write your resignation . This is the last favor I can offer Vincent said , ushering her out impatiently .
“ Mr. Foster ! ” Jennifer cried out desperately , pounding on the closed door .
Still weak from her recent miscarriage and devastated by the sudden loss of her job , Jennifer nearly collapsed .
A pair of hands suddenly steadied her shoulders from behind .
Recognizing that familiar presence , Jennifer turned and saw Donald’s face . Tears instantly welled up in her eyes .
With tears welling in her eyes , Jennifer’s voice trembled as she whispered , “ Donald … ”
Donald stared at Jennifer . Her pallor didn’t escape his notice . He’d overheard every word Vincent said moments ago from the doorway .
“ Jennifer , you should resign voluntarily . You’re not cut out for this profession . It’s for the best , for everyone , ” Donald said .
“ No , I can’t lose everything I have now . I just can’t , ” Jennifer cried desperately .
Jennifer pleaded through her sobs and added , “ Donald , I’m begging you . Please talk to Jonathan for me . He’s your cousin , isn’t
he ?
Anyway , there was no way Jennifer could swallow her pride and beg Jonathan for help . Donald released his grip on her , disappointment clouding his face .
Donald shook his head and said , “ Jonathan and I aren’t even in touch anymore , so I can’t ask him for anything . I thought you’d show some remorse , Jennifer , but you’re still so unrepentant . This time , I can’t help you . ”
Just as Donald turned to leave , Jennifer desperately grabbed his hand like a drowning woman clutching at her last lifeline .
“ I’m pregnant , ” Jennifer cried out desperately . Donald froze and whipped his head around to stare at Jennifer .
Jennifer didn’t miss the flash of joy in Donald’s eyes .
Jennifer’s heart twisted in agony . She thought , ‘ If only the accident hadn’t happened , the baby would still be here . However , it doesn’t matter . I’m sure Donald and I will have a second child soon . ‘
At this moment , desperate to keep Donald from leaving , Jennifer knew she had no choice but to keep lying .

“ Enough , I don’t want to hear any more of this , ” Donald cut her off and said , his voice thick with anguish and bitter disappointment .
Donald’s voice trembled with anger as he said , “ So , you were pregnant when you said so at the wedding , but then you lied to mee about it again just for a promotion . Is that what happened ? ”
Jennifer nodded painfully and pleaded , “ Donald , please forgive me just this once . For the baby and our family
Jennifer’s hand trembled as she pressed it against her belly .
Donald leaned back , staring at the ceiling in anguish . The weight on his chest was overwhelming . There was no joy , only pain and struggle . But the child was innocent , and with a heavy heart , he chose to accept the baby .
