Maybe pregnancy messed up her memory . She’d even forgotten the most basic rule : never accept a drink from a stranger .

Teresa blinked in surprise . “ Duncan ? Who’s that ? ”
“ The guy who slapped you and almost tried to take you away , ” Jonathan replied .
No wonder her face still hurt . In a daze , Teresa remembered that fat greasy , disgusting man hitting her . So it really did happen .
Teresa bristled . “ I’m coming with you . If he dares lay a hand on me again , I’m not just going to sit back and take it . ”

When Jonathan headed to the garage , she followed right behind . He finally relented , saying , “ You barely got any sleep last night . I wanted you to rest , but If you insist , get in the car . ”

When they arrived at the police station , Duncan , the guy from yesterday , outright denied drugging Teresa or attempting to kidnap her .
“ You’re accusing me of kidnapping , but I didn’t even succeed . You can’t charge me for something that didn’t happen , right ? ” Duncan asked .

Duncan gritted his teeth and looked at a police officer . “ Let her slap me , and we’ll call it even . Then I’m off the hook , right ? ”

Duncan’s face turned a inix of red and purple . “ There , she hit me . We’re even now , I didn’t try to kidnap her . She told me she’s divorced with two kids . Why would I want a woman like that ? ”
