“ Y – your daughter ? ” Lyndon stammered . He was so shocked that his glasses nearly slipped off .
His hands shook as he pushed his glasses back up his nose .
Cheryl didn’t notice the complicated look in Lyndon’s eyes . She said breezily , “ She’s sleeping . Do you want to see her ? ”
“ Just keep your voice down , okay ? Don’t wake her up . But don’t worry . She’s really well – behaved . Once she’s asleep , she’ll stay that way for hours , added Cheryl .
Lyndon didn’t say a word . He froze up completely when he saw the little baby lying in the bedroom .
“ Cheryl , is that really your daughter ? ” he asked .
Cheryl replied , “ Yeah . Bet you didn’t see that coming , right ? Sorry , I didn’t tell you sooner . ”
Lyndon said , “ But my cousin said you were single . ”
Cheryl took a second to react to whom Lyndon referred . After that , she said , “ You mean Benny . ”
She continued , “ I am single . I’m a single mom . Nobody else knows about this . I only told you . Can you keep it a secret for me ? ”
Lyndon went quiet again .
After a moment , he patted his pockets and said , “ I probably left my phone at home . I need to go back and look for it . ”
Without waiting for Cheryl to say anything , he spun around and hurried off .
Cheryl spotted a black phone sitting on the couch . She grabbed it and ran after him . “ Lyndon , your phone is here .”
However , by the time she got to the door , Lyndon was already nowhere to be seen .
Still in her slippers , Cheryl dashed straight over to Lyndon’s car .
Lyndon was just about to drive off when he saw Cheryl running over with his phone in her hand . He cursed in his heart and got out of the car with a forced smile .
He said , “ Look at me . I left my phone at your place and didn’t even notice .”
“ That’s fine , ” Cheryl said with a smile . “ Actually , could I ask you for a favor ? ”
Seeing Cheryl leaning against his car with no plan to leave , Lyndon secretly cursed again but kept up his polite smile .
He asked , “ What kind of favor ? ”
Cheryl saw him still smiling gently , so she blurted out her request without thinking .
Since she had kept Serena’s birth a secret from her family , she couldn’t bring Serena home . She hoped Lyndon could help look after Serena when she
was away .
“ Lyndon , I trust you . I know you’re a kind person . Could you help me take care of my daughter ? ” asked Cheryl .
Lyndon replied with hesitation , “ Cheryl , I – I’m a guy . I’m not sure I’m the best choice . ”
Cheryl insisted . “ Well , don’t worry . My daughter is super easy to look after . You saw how relaxed I was when we went shopping . Once she’s eaten , she’ll sleep for a long time . ”

Lyndon went quiet and pushed his glasses up his nose . After that , he said , “ Well , Cheryl … I haven’t even had breakfast yet ?
“ You haven’t eaten yet ? ” Cheryl hadn’t expected Lyndon to bring her breakfast while he hadn’t even eaten himself .
Cheryl said , “ Let me treat you . There’s a place ahead that makes great burritos . I’ll take
you there . ”
Lyndon said , “ Maybe we should just- ”
But before Lyndon could finish , Cheryl grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the restaurant .
Lyndon cursed a few more times in his heart , growing more impatient .
During breakfast time , Lyndon excused himself to use the restroom and never came back .
Cheryl had no idea that she had been stood up . She waited for Lyndon in the restaurant for over an hour . Worried that Serena might wake up at home , she decided to head back .
She called Lyndon , but all she got was a cold voice prompt . “ The person you are calling is not available. Please leave your name and phone number after the tone . ”
Afraid something might have happened , Cheryl even went to check the men’s restroom nearby , but Lyndon was nowhere to be found .
She tried calling him again , but still couldn’t get through .
Probably , new moms got scatterbrained . Only then did Cheryl remember to message him on WhatsApp .
