While she had managed to get a substantial amount of money from Lionel, her daily expenses were enormous. She couldn’t just suddenly start pinching pennies.
But starting a business or getting a job was out of the question. She wasn’t about to do something so strenuous. She hadn’t worked that hard in the first half of her life, why start now?
Besides, it was clear she couldn’t rely on the man in front of her. At the end of the day, he was just a secretary. If he hadn’t been useful to her, he never would have even had the chance to get close to her.
The most pressing issue was that her parents had been messaging her nonstop for the past two days, begging her to bring them over. They were afraid of being targeted by Hannah if they stayed. But bringing them here would be another huge expense she was unwilling to pay.
So, whenever they messaged, she would tell them she hadn’t settled in yet and promised to bring them over as soon as she was stable.
As for when that would be, well, that was a question for another day. In any case, her current situation was not ideal.

“What did Sandra say? When is she going to bring us over? If this drags on, let’s just buy tickets and go ourselves. I don’t want to get dragged into this mess. Look at what those two families are doing to each other! They’re out for blood. If they decide to turn on us, we’re finished, I’m telling you p>
David asked his wife, his brow furrowed, as she put down her phone.
Edith set her phone down and sighed heavily.
“Sandra is all alone in a faraway place. She needs time to get settled and find her footing before she can bring us over. We can’t just show up and be a burden to her p>
“A burden? What burden? We’ll just
buy a house, get a car, live like we do now, and maybe see if there are any business opportunities. What does she need to ‘find her footing’ for? It’s obvious to me she took a huge pile
of cash and rap with no intention of
looking after us. Call her again. Tell her if she doesn’t bring us over in the next couple of days, we’re buying tickets and coming anyway. She’d better give us her address p>
Hearing David’s furious words, Edith finally snapped and yelled back.
“Have you forgotten how much our daughter has suffered? If those two families weren’t at war, everyone online would still be calling our daughter a homewrecker! Can’t you think about her for once instead of just yourself p>
Edith pointed at him, continuing her tirade. “Think about it! The food you eat, the clothes you wear-where do you think it all came from? Our daughter’s hard work! She’s your daughter, not your personal ATM! Can’t you treat her a little better p>
“Suffered? Hard work? What
suffering? What work? She was just being a mistress to a married mant You make it sound so noble. If she hadnt become a mistress, would we be getting cursed out like this? Now the company’s bankrupt, we’re almost out of money, and she’s taken tens of millions and run off,
leaving us to fend for ourselves p>
Hearing this, Edith was so enraged she couldn’t hold back any longer. She raised
her hand and slapped him across the face.
“Listen to yourself! Was our
daughter just being a mistress? She was pursuing her true love, what’s wrong with that? Besides, you knew exactly what she was doing. When she was getting benefits from Lionel, you were happier than anyone to take them! Now that theres trouble you’re cursing her more than anyone Is she even your daughter? If you keep this up, we might as well get a divorce p>
