Samuel looked from one to the other in surprise.
As they took their calls, both of their expressions grew increasingly grim. When they hung up, they looked at each other.
“I’ll drive you to the main residence p>
“No need.” Hannah stood up and looked at Samuel. “You drive me. And you’re coming in with me p>
Samuel wasn’t sure what was happening, but based on Hannah’s expression and the mention of the main residence, he could piece most of it together.
He got up and drove Hannah to the Rosenberg family estate.
Lionel’s car followed close behind.
He sat in the passenger seat, his brow furrowed as he stared at the car ahead. For some reason, even with the windows closed, he felt the air in the car grow colder, a chill seeping into his heart.
He gripped the steering wheel, his heart clenching painfully.
Though the family had known they were getting a divorce, and even Grandma was now aware, the situation escalating like this was having a major impact on the Rosenberg Group.
Lionel rubbed his temples, his head aching. He had no idea what his mother would say to Hannah, especially since she had never liked her to begin with. And now this p>
He let out a heavy sigh.
Thirty minutes later, the three of them arrived at the main residence.
Besides his mother, Quennel, and Grandma, several other influential family members were also present.
Lionel greeted everyone as he entered. Hannah only acknowledged Quennel and Grandma, ignoring the rest.
She remembered all too well the times she had politely greeted them only to be met with endless scorn.
Lionel’s aunt, Carol, noticed the snub and sneered.
“My, my. Some people get a little bold once they’ve latched onto the Temple family. They even forget their manners and don’t greet their elders p>
“Aunt Carol p>
“Greet you?” Hannah cut Lionel off. “When I first met you, I called you Aunt Carol, and you told me not to to not pretend we were related. Now that a Temple, you suddenly want to claim kinship? How interesting. You really do look down on people p>
Hannah’s voice was neither loud nor soft, but everyone in the room heard her biting words.
She made it sound as though Carol was the one desperate to associate with the Temple family, forcing Hannah to acknowledge her.
“You-you have no upbringing!” Carol shot to her feet, pointing a finger at Hannah. “Now that you’ve got the Temple family behind you, you’ve grown some nerve, talking to me like that p>
“What do you mean, ‘latched onto’? I was returning to my family, reclaiming my birthright! If anyone is a social climber here, it’s you, marrying into the Rosenberg family p>
“Besides, everyone here knows that when I used to greet everyone politely, you were the first to give me the gold shoulder. You acted like it would physically pain you if I called you Aunt Carol’! Are you trying to kiss up to the Temple family now? Is that why you’re attacking me p>
Hannah sat on the mahogany sofa, her expression proud and unflinching, completely unfazed by the fact that she was surrounded by Rosenbergs.
In the past, she would have worried constantly that she wasn’t doing or saying the right thing, that she would embarrass Lionel. She would have been filled with anxiety and self-recrimination.
But not anymore. She couldn’t care less about Carol or any of them. They were the first ones to disrespect her, so why should she show them any respect now? Just looking at them was annoying.
