From his embrace, she could feel the warmth of his breath and found herself marveling at his thick eyelashes. The intensity in his gaze was deep and unsettling, like an abyss.
“When I touched you, why were you trembling?” His voice carried a husky undertone.
“I’m a little… I’m not used to it,” Ellie stammered, her legs weak as she struggled to steady her breath.

Releasing her, Kaiden fetched a glass of warm water. Ellie took it with a sigh of relief. For now, she wasn’t mentally prepared to have sex in his office.
After sitting on the sofa, a sip of water soothed her throat, strained from the recent tension and the shouting of the night before.
“What’s gotten into you? Why did you suddenly… kiss me?” Ellie asked, her eyes narrowing in confusion.
Upon exiting the meeting room, he had embraced her tightly, pressed a passionate kiss to her lips, and then ushered her into his office. She had been genuinely shocked.
Kaiden, hands clasped, stared down at his fingertips, his expression unreadable. He wouldn’t admit that he knew about her plan to meet Baylee and had not intended to stay, which was why he had entered the meeting room.
But once inside, his attention wasn’t on work. He had thought she would leave after her altercation with Jorge and Erick, yet when Bruce told him she had been waiting outside for half an hour, Kaiden didn’t hesitate to rush out.
