Chapter 443
Chapter 443:
“You kid!” Brisa, unable to do anything about her son’s protectiveness, turned to Carole to boast. “Carole, Ellie has such artistic talent, doesn’t she p>
Carole’s face darkened momentarily, but she forced a smile, replying, “Yes, Miss Gordon is very impressive.” She had expected Ellie’s gift to pale in comparison to her own, thinking she would choose something less remarkable. But Ellie had surprised her with this hidden talent.
“Hey, Carole, since you treated Kaiden like your brother, you should call Ellie ‘sister-in-law’!” Brisa suddenly remembered that Ellie was now her daughter-in-law. Her memory wasn’t the best, so the caretaker had to remind her daily of this fact.
Carole’s face turned pale as she stammered. She couldn’t bring herself to acknowledge Ellie.
Ellie watched Carole with a knowing smile.
Carole, unable to utter the words, bit her silver teeth and continued to gaze at Kaiden, silently begging for his help.
Considering her relationship with his brother, Kaiden reassured, “It’s okay not to call her that p>
If his brother were still alive and married to Carole, they would have referred to Carole as “sister-in-law p>
Ellie’s smile stiffened slightly, but it didn’t matter to her. She didn’t need Carole’s acknowledgment as “sister-in-law,” and the thought of it even disgusted her.
Meanwhile, Brisa showed a keen interest in the piece Ellie had composed and started discussing it with her.
Finding the conversation uninteresting, Kaiden decided to step out to the balcony for a smoke.
Seizing the opportunity, Carole followed him. “Kaiden, are you angry with me for siding with your father today?” She hurriedly explained, “I brought on behalf of my family, and he was probably just being polite because of my family. I’ve always been on your side p>
“I am not angry with you,” Kaiden replied, the crimson flame flickering at his fingertips.

“Really? If you’re not angry, then why did you ask Edwin to entertain me?” Carole looked down, hurt.
“Carole, Ellie is my wife p>
“I know that…” Carole responded, feeling frustrated. Why did he have to keep emphasizing it?
Kaiden remained silent, his gaze fixed on Carole, as if silently studying her. His gaze remained calm yet imposing, and the unspoken message hung heavily in the air. Since he had a wife, his companion could only be her.
Carole looked away, her heart stinging with hurt. “Sorry, Kaiden, I wasn’t thoughtful enough p>
She had miscalculated. She hadn’t expected him to have such a stance. However, she also felt a flicker of joy, thinking that once she became his wife, she would receive the same level of protection.
With no reason to stay in the room any longer, she decided to leave. She strolled alone to the garden to clear her head before returning.
“Miss Lambert!” Demi suddenly blocked Carole’s path, her right hand casually resting on her flat belly, seemingly flaunting her pregnancy.
