Chapter 943
“Money? The staff could earn that. As the boss, I should learn to relax.”
Ellie showed Kaiden a black dress and asked, “Do you think this looks good?” The dress had a high waist and a slightly flared hemline, hiding her pregnancy well.
“You look great in anything,” Kaiden said.
“But you didn’t even look at it!” Ellie complained, feeling his response was half-hearted.
However, Kaiden was being honest. She had a striking appearance and looked wonderful in any outfit. Besides, she was his beloved wife. What other answer could she expect from him?
Kaiden walked over and took the dress from her hand. He placed his hand on her belly and looked at it curiously.
He noticed it seemed a bit bigger than it had a few days ago.
Ellie gave him a dissatisfied look.
Kaiden hugged her and asked patiently, “So, where are you going in such a beautiful dress?”
The word “beautiful” pleased Ellie. Everyone enjoys compliments, especially from their loved ones.
“Katharine said there’s a charity dinner tonight. She wants me to go with her.”
This charity dinner was a major event in the business world. Hearing this, Kaiden realized it was a chance for the public to see how much the Lambert family valued Ellie.
“Did you get an invitation? Are you going?” Ellie asked Kaiden.
“No, I have a video conference later.”
If he attended, Ellie would be overshadowed by him, and people would only see her as “Mrs. Thorpe,” forgetting that she was also the youngest daughter of the Lambert family.
Kaiden felt a sense of relief that Ellie would be attending the event with Katharine.
Because of Kaiden’s compliment, Ellie decided to wear the black dress to the event and was about to pick out her choice of shoes.
Kaiden had already brought her a pair of black flats.
She was speechless, realizing he must have worried that she’d pick high heels. As Ellie was about to protest that they weren’t stylish, she saw him squatting in front of her, gently holding her ankle.
“Lift your foot,” he said.
Ellie sighed, knowing that her protest was going to fall on deaf ears, and gave in.
