Chapter 961
“Yes.”
“You’re close to your family, right?” Clarinda feigned her reaction and apologized. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Thorpe. I’m a bit nervous. I didn’t mean to intrude on your personal life.”
Recalling that Clarinda had been under Talon’s control and was about to perform a transplant, Ellie understood that Clarinda was the most isolated and vulnerable person in that situation, leading to her heightened anxiety. Ellie’s family origin wasn’t a secret; nearly everyone in the wealthy and powerful circles knew it, so Ellie wasn’t bothered.
She replied, “Yes, I’m close to my family.”
“My sister and I also get along well. We grew up together,” Clarinda smiled. Because of this bond, she would go to any lengths to seek vengeance for her sister!
Talon and his family had intended to keep Kaiden and Clarinda out, but they were surprised to find Jorge standing there with a cane as soon as they entered the living room.
“Mr. Kaiden Thorpe mentioned he would return. Mr. Jorge Thorpe happened to be available, so he came to wait,” the old butler explained with a smile.
“Happening to be available? It was just an excuse!” Talon thought. He believed Jorge sided with Kaiden, but he couldn’t express any displeasure.
Instead, he said, “Dad, I’ll wait for Kaiden here. I’ll let you know when he arrives. You can go and…”
Before Talon could finish his words, Kaiden helped Ellie inside. A slender young woman trailed behind them.
The woman, who smiled as she met Talon’s eyes, was none other than Clarinda.
“Who’s that woman?” the butler asked when he saw Jorge looking at Clarinda with a puzzled expression.
Clarinda stepped forward as Talon and his family looked somber.
“Hi, Mr. Thorpe, I’m Clarinda Hilton. I’ve come to donate bone marrow for your wife,” she explained. Ellie glanced at Clarinda. Although Clarinda didn’t know Jorge, she could tell immediately who he was from the way everyone acted. Clarinda was clever.
“Where are you from? What nonsense are you talking about?” Erick panicked and quickly signaled to the servant. “Get this woman out of here right away.” Clarinda was clearly in a vulnerable position. Upon hearing the command, the servant acted promptly.
Without hesitation, Ellie positioned herself in front of Clarinda and fixed a sharp gaze on Erick. “Are you feeling guilty?”
“Shut up, Erick!” Talon yelled. He realized his son had made a foolish move and glared at him.
Clarinda gazed at the slim woman standing protectively in front of her. Her eyes displayed conflict and uncertainty, yet those complex feelings vanished after just a moment.
Observing Clarinda’s composure and the guilty demeanor of Talon and his family, Jorge quickly understood the situation. His anger was evident as he slammed his cane on the floor.
Ten minutes passed. The group gathered in the living room, awaiting Carole. Tension hung heavy in the air.
Talon wished to clarify matters, but Jorge had completely lost faith in Talon and his family. At that moment, Jorge had no patience for Talon’s excuses. Talon had to wait for Carole to arrive and confront her directly.
Kaiden’s demeanor set him apart from everyone else. While others were anxious, he calmly peeled an orange for Ellie.
