Kaiden’s eyes then shifted to Ellie. The right side of her table was piled high with chips. Her knack for dice games had evidently translated well into card skills.
Kaiden, acknowledging the young men around him, wheeled himself over to Carole.
“Let’s play this way,” he suggested, starting to instruct Carole in the game. He wasn’t particularly fond of card games, but playing against Ellie sparked a bit of interest in him.
This shift caught the attention of the others, who couldn’t help but comment.
“Look at Mr. Thorpe, teaming up with Carole to take on Ellie!” one said. Another chimed in, “Well, it’s Carole who called him over. If you could do that, maybe he’d help you too p>
“Right, we’re not in Carole’s league,” laughed another.
Their laughter echoed around the room, and the underlying message was clear. They were suggesting that Kaiden held a special preference and affection for Carole.
Ellie, who had arrived at the party with Kaiden, now seemed sidelined as he sat with another woman. This scene made her appear almost like the butt of a joke.
Carole, hearing their remarks, didn’t object. She simply smiled at Ellie across the table, her look almost a silent taunt.

Although Essence felt no real attachment to her fiancé, Kaiden was aware of her feelings for him, leading Marcus to find a partner for his daughter.
Ellie glanced at Kaiden. He sat beside Carole with a relaxed posture, his eyes casually scanning the cards as if making calculations.
Was he seriously going to assist Carole against her?
With a detached smile, Ellie resumed the game.
The crowd’s eyes turned to her, expecting to see anger or sadness, maybe even jealousy. But her expression showed none of these emotions, leaving them somewhat disappointed. Then something odd happened.
Ever since Kaiden started advising Carole, Ellie, who had been on a winning streak, began to lose. And she was only losing to Carole. It was almost as if she was deliberately playing into Carole’s hands, sending her chips her way.

“Miss Gordon seems to have run out of luck,” someone commented. Carole, clearly pleased, surveyed the chips she had won from Ellie. “I win again,” she declared.
“Miss, you’re running low on chips,” the chip attendant reminded Ellie. Everyone at the table watched Ellie, almost gloating, waiting for her to show embarrassment at not having enough money.
But Ellie, under their watchful gaze, did something unexpected. She reached out her right hand towards Kaiden and tilted her chin up slightly. “Mr. Thorpe, I’m out of money,” she announced with confidence, as if asking for financial assistance.
Kaiden chuckled at her boldness. “Exchange my money for chips for her,” he instructed the waiter.
He had been wondering how someone with Ellie’s skills and intelligence could keep losing to others. It appeared she was maneuvering for him to lend her money.
He wasn’t annoyed. Instead, he found her actions unexpectedly charming.
The crowd was left in shock! Everyone in the room had witnessed women asking their wealthy partners for money before, but Ellie’s bold and assertive approach was something new to them.
