Chapter 60
Chapter 60:
Sensing Kaiden’s thoughts, Bruce chimed in quickly, “It appears Mrs. Thorpe is vying for the stylist position here this quarter. She’s made it to the second interview round and seems to be faring quite well p>
Ellie was unknowingly competing at her husband’s company.
Kaiden’s response was a silent pressure of his tongue against his cheek.
“Have her brought to me p>
He wondered why she hadn’t stayed home to rest as instructed.
On the day he returned to the country, Kaiden was surprised to find Ellie out and about.
“I’ve got a merger meeting soon. Zoey can handle this, right?” Bruce proposed.
Zoey Sawyer, Kaiden’s trusted secretary-general, was undeniably a loyal aide. However, her place in Kaiden’s heart couldn’t compare to Bruce, who had grown up alongside him after being personally brought out of the orphanage by Kaiden.
Kaiden nodded, signaling Bruce to proceed.
“Wait!” Kaiden called out as Bruce neared the door. A sudden thought struck him. “Fetch me a cup of hot chocolate p>
Bruce paused, startled. “Hot chocolate, sir?” He couldn’t believe he’d heard right.
Kaiden’s deadpan look indicated that Bruce had heard him right.
“Well, hot chocolate,” Bruce repeated, still in disbelief.
Trying to hide his astonishment, he asked, “Which café then? How sweet? Any special toppings p>
Kaiden, not usually concerned with such specifics, was momentarily perplexed.
Bruce, having worked alongside Kaiden for years, could read him like an open book. Even with Kaiden’s stoic demeanor, Bruce sensed the confusion swirling in his boss’s mind—a silent question mark hanging in the air.
Drawing on his past experience of buying hot chocolate for his ex-girlfriend, Bruce was well-versed in the varied tastes women might have for the beverage. He promptly began to clarify, “Well, everyone has their own preference for hot chocolate. The sugar level could be full, less, half, or slight. Toppings like milk caps can be added too, which can be sweet or salty. Plus, there are numerous cafés to choose from. So, Mr. Thorpe, what would you like? From which café? Sweet Heart? Or Happy Drink p>
This deluge of options clearly hit a blind spot for Kaiden. It was just a drink, after all. Why all the fuss over the details? Did women really invest so much time and thought into their hot chocolate choices?

Kaiden, uninterested in navigating this complexity, simply instructed, “One of each. With extra toppings on all p>
Bruce paused to ponder. Wouldn’t such an order essentially transform the drink into something else, perhaps a cappuccino? But Kaiden’s look of impatience signaled that this was not the time for debate. Bruce knew his role was to follow orders, not question them—especially over a matter as trivial as a beverage.
Meanwhile, Ellie was a model of efficiency at the interview. While other candidates meticulously adjusted and readjusted accessories, she completed her task in one fluid motion, now standing quietly beside her finished mannequin, waiting for the judges’ review.
The mannequin, devoid of any human expression or form, presented no challenge to Ellie. For her, dressing this inanimate figure was a simple task.
