Chapter 160
Chapter 160:
“Ellie, do you come from a notable family, huh?” Jorge inquired, his guilt over Talon’s illegitimacy evident in his tone.
“No, I don’t. That’s why I stepped aside for Demi. Otherwise, I could have been your granddaughter-in-law instead of your daughter-in-law,” Ellie’s response highlighted the relative ease of her current role compared to the alternative.
Erick asked dismissively, “Ellie, did you agree to marry Kaiden knowing about his connection to the GT Group? Is that why you defend him so fervently p>
At last, Erick discovered a rational justification for Ellie’s preference for Kaiden over him.
“If that’s how you see it,” Ellie replied, unwilling to engage in further debate with Erick.
“Ellie, let’s not overlook the fact that Kaiden is currently the president of the GT Group, but he still answers to the chairman,” Erick scoffed, considering himself superior to Kaiden as the future head of the Thorpe Group.
Despite his words, Erick understood the significance of Kaiden’s presidency.
The moment Kaiden’s true identity came to light, Kaiden would immediately become the target of many people.
Ellie raised her eyebrows in amusement.
They thought Kaiden was just the president?
They underestimated Kaiden, unaware he was the GT Group’s largest shareholder.
“If there’s nothing else, I suggest you leave. As your daughter-in-law, I won’t accompany you out,” Ellie stated.
Thud!
At that moment, the sound of a paper bag hitting the floor drew Ellie’s attention. She turned to find Zoey looking at her in surprise.
“Zoey, what’s the matter?” Ellie inquired, recognizing the secretary.
Zoey, regaining her composure, presented Ellie with a pair of flat shoes. “Miss Gordon, Mr. Thorpe requested these for you p>

Ellie, puzzled, didn’t recall Kaiden arranging for shoes to be bought for her.
As Ellie swapped her heels for the flats, Zoey hesitantly broached a question. “Miss Gordon, you and Mr. Thorpe p>
“I married him p>
“Our marriage remains a secret, so please don’t tell anyone. Is something bothering you, Zoey?” Ellie, while placing the high-heeled shoes into a paper bag, sensed an oddity in Zoey’s demeanor.
Zoey snapped out of her daze, shaking her head. “No, it’s just… I’m in shock. I always believed Mr. Thorpe didn’t get married or have a girlfriend because… I apologize. It was inappropriate of me to make assumptions.” Zoey abruptly halted her words.
Because what?
Ellie, with a slight furrow of her brow, felt a spark of curiosity but chose not to delve further.
