Chapter 309
Chapter 309:
“I’m the unreasonable one here,” Ellie interrupted sharply.
“What?” Carole sounded confused.
“In your view, if Herman isn’t unreasonable, then I must be,” Ellie reasoned.
“I didn’t mean that p>
“I don’t need to know what you meant. Today, I’ll embrace being unreasonable.” Ellie couldn’t help but find irony in the situation. “Miss Lambert, are you aware of what happened between me and Herman?” she asked.
“I don’t know all the details, but suing Herman over something minor seems excessive,” Carole responded.
“Miss Lambert, if you’re not familiar with the specifics, I suggest you check the online forums of Critport University. See what they’re saying about me. The harm Herman has caused to my reputation and life is far from trivial. Besides…” Ellie paused, then sneered. “We have no connection. Do you really think it’s appropriate to call and advocate for someone so despicable p>
There was silence on the other end.
Ellie rarely spoke with such force. She knew it was rude to interrupt, but she couldn’t bear to listen to any more of Carole’s nonsense.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that,” Carole finally said, sounding aggrieved.
Ellie pressed a button by her bed, and the curtains opened slowly, letting in the bright sunshine.
“I do have a question for you, Miss Lambert,” she said.
“Please, go ahead p>
“When you were hosting an art exhibition in Tormeto, I called Kaiden. You answered, didn’t you?” Ellie asked, absentmindedly tracing the pattern on the sheet with her other hand.
“Yes,” Carole admitted. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize it was you p>
Stay tuned
“Did you tell Kaiden that I called?” Ellie pressed for an answer.
“Yes,” Carole admitted.
This left Ellie wondering why Kaiden hadn’t known about her call. Or did he simply not care enough to remember to call her back? Next, Ellie inquired, “Did Kaiden give you my phone number p>
There was a brief hesitation on Carole’s end, as if she feared causing trouble.
“Yes. Does that upset you p>
Ellie smiled to herself, curious about Carole’s expression at that moment. “Miss Lambert, I understand you’re abroad and might not be aware of certain things. You probably don’t know that Kaiden was the one who turned Herman from a celebrity into a prisoner p>
The line went dead silent.
“Miss Lambert, is there anything you’d like to explain?” Ellie waited a few seconds for a response before pressing further.
“Well… No,” Carole eventually replied.
