Chapter 660
Darrell wanted to explain himself, but when he saw the expressions of the people around him, he realized no one would believe him unless there was another suspect.
Besides, it was well-known that he didn’t get along with Ellie!
The island placed a high value on guest privacy. Many areas in the common spaces lacked surveillance cameras, making it impossible to prove his innocence.
Darrell gripped his phone so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
He was frustrated.
Then, something occurred to him.
Last night, Carole had borrowed his phone!
Darrell recalled that after Carole bragged about how good his phone’s camera was, she had borrowed it to snap some landscape pictures. When she returned, she started transferring the photos to her own phone while Darrell watched.
At first, Darrell didn’t think much of it, but then it hit him. Carole could have easily sent the pictures of Ellie and Erick to herself. She was the only one who could have done it.
Darrell stared at Carole, shocked.
Carole’s heart was pounding, but she was skilled at maintaining her composure, not revealing her nervousness.
“Mr. Vargas, I trust you, but what we need right now is some proof,” Carole said, pretending to be worried
In that moment, Darrell felt his heart break. It was as if a beautiful dream had just fallen apart.
Proof?
He had no proof that Carole had taken any photos.
The mood grew tense, like a standoff.
Darrell looked down. “I haven’t done anything like that, but if you all think I did, then fine, I’ll own up to it and apologize!”
Ellie confronted Darrell directly. “Mr. Vargas, do you have any other suspicions about someone?”
Darrell wrestled with himself for a moment before finally gritting his teeth and saying, “No!”
Carole quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
“Did you see how Darrell looked at Carole? It seemed quite suspicious,” Ellie whispered to Baylee.
“Totally,” Baylee agreed, having noticed it too.
This day was supposed to mark the grand finale of the episode, but instead, it ended in chaos.
The PR team sprang into action, releasing statements and enlisting influencers to sway public opinion. However, their efforts proved futile. Online discussions were dominated by Ellie’s connection to the Thorpe family, overshadowing any previous gossip about Carole’s alleged romantic ties to Kaiden or accusations of meddling.
