When he applied for the job, Quincy made it clear to him about the relationship between Nina and himself.
Since getting into the car, Nash had been chain-smoking, a clear indicator of the tension between them. Moreover, Nash’s instructions to his subordinate about keeping tabs on Nina, along with his recent attempt to open the car door, did not go unnoticed.
Nash narrowed his eyes. As for the new driver, Nash merely glanced at him. He was tall, thin, with slightly dark skin.
A cold smirk played at the corner of Nash’s lips. “Didn’t Quincy inform you about the rules?”
The driver kept his head down. “Assistant Quincy did, Mr. York. I know I shouldn’t speak out of turn, but I once had regrets. My wife and I were like this. We had conflicts, misunderstandings, and I never apologized, nor did she explain. Later, when I left home to earn a living, she had someone else’s child. And then, I lost her forever.”
Nash pursed his lips, then after a few seconds of silence, he spoke in a low, commanding tone, “Drive.”
Such a situation was unimaginable for him. He would never allow Nina to bear another man’s child!
At that moment, although Nina was in the car with Scott, sitting in the back seat with him, she maintained some distance.
Scott noticed her unease and tried to ease the tension with a light chuckle. “Nina, you don’t need to be so nervous. I’m not a monster.”
“No, I’m not.” Maintaining a distance from Scott was simply the basic boundary between opposite sexes. Moreover, Scott had helped her recently, and now he was giving her a ride. She felt quite embarrassed. From her downcast expression, Scott sensed her thoughts.
He chuckled, “Nina, we’re classmates and friends. Trust me, if the tables were turned and I needed a ride home late at night, you would do the same for me.”
Nina could only smile. When Scott stopped the car in front of her, she was not initially keen on getting in. However, Scott mentioned the late hour, and most importantly, she saw on the ride-hailing app that there were no available cars nearby.
Scott was good at conversation, quickly putting her at ease and dispelling her earlier nervousness.
During their chat, time flew by as they found the conversation engaging.
It was not until the driver stopped the car at the entrance of Riverview Estate that they realized they had arrived at her destination.
Before parting ways, Scott made a point to remind her, “Nina, don’t forget about our dinner appointment tomorrow.”
“Okay,” Nina nodded. As soon as she entered the house, she saw Sally sitting on the sofa. Sally’s gaze turned sharp the moment she laid eyes on her. Clearly, Sally had come prepared. “Sally,” Nina greeted proactively.
Sally sneered, “I don’t have a daughter like you! You haven’t even divorced Nash yet, and you’ve already found a new man? Who’s foolish enough to be your lover?”
Nina pursed her lips. “Sally, please watch your words. He’s just a friend, and besides, Nash interacts with the opposite sex much more than I do. How come I’ve never heard you calling anyone else a homewrecker?”
As Nina spoke, she met Sally’s gaze directly. At that moment, Nina remained calm and composed.
Sally stood up from the sofa in anger, pointing at Nina furiously. “Nina, you have some nerve talking to me like this!”
