Nash still harbored some anticipation. Over the years, he had never prepared gifts to please women, so he was curious about Nina’s reaction.
However, upon arriving, he found Nina’s desk empty. Approaching, he noticed her computer was off. He turned to Taylor, who was approaching, and asked coldly, “Where’s Nina?” Taylor, holding a stack of documents, replied, “Nina left ten minutes early, said she had plans to dine with a friend.”
Nash’s expression immediately soured!
Dining with a friend?
A male friend or a female friend?
Didn’t he mention they would have dinner together tonight?
Was she rejecting him?
Nash was displeased, his deep gaze turning extremely cold. Taylor, observing his gradually darkening expression, felt her heart pound in her throat, unaware of why he suddenly became upset. She quickly added, “Mr. York, I heard Nina’s phone call. It was a woman’s voice.”
Nash, with a stern face, swiftly walked out. Downstairs, Quincy had been waiting for a long time. They had made preparations for this dinner.
When Quincy saw Nash coming out without Nina, he hurriedly handed the flowers to him, smiling, “Mr. York, your flowers. I suppose Madam wants to freshen up before dinner with you…”
As Quincy handed the flowers to Nash, he felt his words stumble on his tongue, met with Nash’s sharp gaze. Quincy’s smile stiffened. He did not know what he did wrong, but Nash’s displeasure was probably related to Nina. “Mr. York… Did Madam… leave early?” He hoped he was just overthinking.
Nash pressed his lips, suppressing his anger, and commanded sharply, “Get in the car!”
“Yes!” Quincy thought their marital relationship might have eased today, but it seemed he was mistaken. Holding the flowers was awkward, but throwing them away was not an option either. He quickly got into the car.
“Wait!” Nash called out.
Quincy stopped, looking at him puzzled. “Mr. York?”
“The flowers, give them to me,” Nash said coldly.
Quincy handed the flowers to him once again. They were freshly picked roses, air-shipped, showing Nash had put thought into it.
Nash took the flowers, feeling uneasy inside, but he did not say anything more. He was afraid that saying another word might lead to bloodshed!
On the other hand, Quincy felt extremely uncomfortable sitting there. Even though he was driving, he could not escape Nash’s icy stare in the rearview mirror. Driving while trembling in fear, he was worried about losing his bonus at any moment.
Meanwhile, Nina was with Yvonne, sitting downstairs at a cafe.
“Did you bring it?” Nina asked.
Yvonne held up a package, “Yes, I brought it but I haven’t opened it yet.”
Nina unwrapped the package, revealing the pregnancy books she had ordered. There were several of them. She ran her fingers over the baby on the cover, a slight smile playing on her lips. She wondered if her baby would be as cute when born.
Seeing her smile so happily, Yvonne remarked, “You’re gentler and more docile now that you’re pregnant. I heard childbirth is very painful. You should prepare yourself mentally.” She was quite worried. Childbirth was indeed a painful process.
Nina reassured her, “Once you’re pregnant, you’ll feel differently. Before I got pregnant, I was afraid of pain too. But when it’s your own flesh and blood, you’ll forget about the pain.”
“I don’t want to get pregnant,” Yvonne said, shuddering at the thought. “I’m never finding a man in this lifetime.”
But Nina looked at her and chuckled, “I’ve seen you with quite a few men.”
Yvonne lightly tapped her, blushing, “You, don’t make fun of me!”
“I know they don’t count as true love, but someday, you’ll find someone you don’t want to give up on. I’ll wait for you until that day.”
“Nina, you’re still saying that.”
Yvonne had talked about many men before, but hearing Nina speak so seriously about it still made her blush and feel embarrassed. She playfully tickled Nina.
Just then, footsteps approached. Nina pushed Yvonne onto the sofa, and they burst into laughter. But Nina’s laughter died when she caught sight of a tall figure staring at her. Her face went pale in an instant.
