Chapter 1001

Dominic ended the call abruptly, leaving Nash listening to the busy tone. Nash realized that Dominic was indeed someone who cared deeply about his reputation. He put away his phone and pulled Nina close. “Let’s head back and make sure this medicine is legitimate.”
If it was, and he was free from the poison’s hold, he could finally take Nina and Orion back to Birkham and live the life Nina had always wanted.
Meanwhile, back with Orion, he had developed a high fever. The sudden onset left Pharaoh scrambling.
After a thorough examination, Pharaoh sighed in relief upon confirming that it was just a common cold and not a rejection or something more serious.
However, when physical cooling methods did not bring the fever down, Pharaoh resorted to giving Orion an IV, staying by his side the entire time without a moment’s rest.
As Orion’s condition stabilized, even Micah, who was concerned, took it upon himself to cook chicken broth for the boy.
Freya, seeing Micah busy in the kitchen, rushed over. “You’re the leader of the Yaren Tribe now. If others see you doing this, they might be upset or question your authority.”
Micah did not give her a chance to finish. “Why should I be afraid of what others think if I’m making chicken broth for my nephew? By that logic, my time teaching must be considered a scandalous part of my past.”
He spoke with such indifference, not even bothering to turn and look at her. Freya felt a deep pang in her heart. However, she had resolved to stay by Micah’s side and try to win him over, no matter how difficult.
“I didn’t mean any harm. I was just thinking about your position now…” Freya began, trying to explain.
“I don’t need a high position,” Micah cut her off. “If I did, I wouldn’t still let those kids call me ‘Teacher Micah.”
Freya’s throat tightened. She had hoped to use this moment to help him, but once again, he shut her down.
Then, with a cold edge in his voice, he added, “You should go. Stop wasting your time on me. Aside from necessary work, I don’t want any further interaction with you.”
“Why? We got along well before. Or is it that… you don’t like women?” Freya’s voice trembled as she spoke.
Micah had been patient with her before, not saying these harsh things because she had not confessed her feelings. But now that she had, making it clear she wanted to be with him, his rejection was absolute. This constant rejection made Freya start to doubt and question everything.
Micah was already on edge, worried about Orion, and Freya’s persistent advances were wearing on his patience. The suggestion that he did not like women was the last straw. When she dared to question him like this, it was beyond reason to him.
Micah’s expression darkened immediately. His usually composed eyes turned sharp and stormy, speaking volumes without uttering a word.
Freya was momentarily taken aback by the intensity of his glare, but having come this far, she felt she had to press on. “If you don’t like men, then why do you keep rejecting me, even though I’ve been pursuing you so openly? And if you never wanted to be close to me, why didn’t you tell me that earlier?”
Her voice wavered, but she was determined to get an answer.
