Chapter 930

The military doctor first administered emergency treatment to Orion and then examined him thoroughly. Finally, the diagnosis came.
“He has asthma. He needs to have medication with him at all times.”
Asthma…
Hearing this word made Nina’s scalp tingle. She knew about this illness. It could be congenital, hereditary, or acquired. It required constant medication, or an attack could be fatal.
Nina shuddered to think what might have happened if Orion had not encountered her, if he had not been at the military camp. Would he have died from an asthma attack with no one to help or even notice? Throughout all this, Orion clung tightly to her hand.
She remembered that day when Orion had clearly and painfully expressed that he did not want to go to the embassy, that he wanted to stay with her. Perhaps he saw her as the only person who cared about him. “Ah… Ah…”
A violent coughing fit interrupted Nina’s thoughts. She looked over and saw that Orion had woken up. His eyes were filled with sorrow and he gazed at her quietly.
He shook his head, and she understood his meaning. He did not want to be separated from her or be sent to the embassy. This child needed care, and any negligence could be fatal.
Having promised Micah she would go to the Yaren tribe, she knew she had to fulfill that first. But she could not leave Orion behind. She would bring him with her and ensure Wilfred treated him.
Gently holding his small hand, she stroked his back. “If you want to stay with me, then you can. Once you get better, I’ll help you find your family.”
Orion shook his head again.
Nina’s heart ached. Such a small child with no family.
What she did not realize was that Orion just did not want to be separated from her.
Micah watched this scene unfold with a frown. When Nina stepped out of the tent, Micah approached her.
“We need to leave tonight,” he said. “If you’re worried about the child, you can bring him with us.”
Nina had not expected Micah to stay by her side all this time. Moreover, she was surprised that Micah was willing to compromise and respect her wishes.
Despite the progress the Yaren tribe had made, she could not forget the things they had done in the past.
“Why do you need me to go back right now?” she asked, clenching her fists and looking up at Micah with a heavy heart.
Micah responded, “Because it’s been a long time, and I thought you might have found some peace. We’ve been working hard over the years. We can’t let Seth continue to gain power.”
Seth’s hatred stemmed from his lust for power and the death of Miranda. They were all part of the bigger scheme, and breaking it from within was the only way.
Nina remained silent.
Micah continued, “This child appeared in your life very suddenly. Be careful not to let your compassion cloud your judgment.”
He did not want to outright call her overly compassionate, but his warning was clear. Being too kind could lead to trouble. He just did not want Nina to get hurt.
After five years and so many experiences, Nina was well aware of the risks. She sensed there was something unusual about Orion. In the chaos of war, many children became displaced, injured, and orphaned.
The military had entrusted the child to her because they recognized her as a Birkhamese journalist. Then, when they reached the embassy, the embassy had her look after him temporarily due to his unique situation.
