Chapter 533

And he was their captain.
So, even though Nash was no longer in the military, they still called him Captain York.
After that phone call with Nina, he suspected something was wrong when she hesitated to say something. Therefore, he rushed back overnight.
To his shock, someone really was trying to kidnap her!
There was no way he would let them get away with this.
“Keep pursuing,” Nash said gravely. “There’s someone else in their car. Be careful!”
Blowing out all four tires would make them stop, but with Nina in the car, he could not take that risk.
If anything happened to them, Nina would be in danger too, and she was pregnant.
They could only chase at high speed.
As they crossed a bridge, Scarlett’s assistant said, “We’re almost there. Once we cross this bridge, we’ll be safe.”
Scarlett saw the military vehicles closing in, getting nearer and nearer. “It’s not going to be that easy.”
With only three tires, they were much slower.
In a few minutes, the military vehicles would catch up.
The assistant looked in the rearview mirror. “What should we do?”
Scarlett glanced at the rushing river below the bridge, wondering if killing Nina would be enough to complete the mission.
They would catch up soon.
They needed to deal with Nina first to stop the pursuit.
“Stop the car,” Scarlett said.
The assistant was surprised. “What?”
“Stop the car,” Scarlett repeated. “This woman’s body is worthless now. Just throw her down, and we’ll have completed the mission!”
“Got it!”
They slammed on the brakes.
Scarlett quickly got out and opened the trunk.
Nina was curled up, trembling.
The sudden sunlight was blinding. She covered her head with her shaking hands.
Scarlett was shocked to see Nina still awake, not unconscious.
But there was no time to think about that. She dragged Nina out.
Nina was lost in a daze, her eyes vacant, until she saw her feet dangling above the rushing river below.
“No-” Nina’s bloodied hands grabbed Scarlett’s arm.
Scarlett looked at Nina’s pale face and said, “I’m sorry, but you have to die. If you don’t, many others will.”
Nina stared at Scarlett with determined eyes. “I saw you and Wilfred!”
“What?” Scarlett was confused, not understanding her words.
Nina continued, “Sunlight, you both haven’t seen sunlight in a long time!”
Scarlett’s body stiffened, her gaze locked on Nina’s reddened eyes. She froze for a moment.
Her hands trembled, and Nina’s body swayed in the air. Tears welled up in Nina’s eyes. “In the dark room, all we wanted was to see the sunlight…” Scarlett’s expression turned to shock, her eyes filling with tears.
The dark room.
Could Nina have been in that dark room too?
They all longed for sunlight.
Yes, they all wanted to see the sunlight, not stay in the small, dark room.
But they could never see the light again.
“Who are you really…” Scarlett asked.
Bang!
A gunshot rang out.
The assistant shouted, “Scarlett, are we going to throw her down or not?”
Scarlett looked over and saw the military vehicles had stopped not far away. Several people were getting out.
She hesitated, unsure whether to throw Nina down.
“Scarlett!”
Suddenly, a voice came from the other side of the bridge.
Scarlett turned and saw Sawyer sitting in a car, looking at her with a grim expression.
“Throw her down.”
Seeing such a heart-stopping scene, everyone’s heart was in their throat, unable to imagine what would happen if Nina fell.
