Chapter 557

After parting ways with Penelope, Nina sprang into action. She called Angel again.
“Write an article saying that Penelope’s role was stolen by someone who brought financial backing, and that it’s all being manipulated by powerful interests,” Nina instructed. Angel was taken aback. “Are you sure? That newcomer is from your husband’s company.”
She was worried about the potential repercussions for Nash. They could not afford to offend him.
Nina was beyond caring about such concerns. In business, competition was inevitable, even between husband and wife. “Just write it. If anything happens, I’ll take responsibility.” “Alright,” Angel said. “But if Mr. York asks about it, don’t blame me.”
“I won’t. This is fair competition.”
Angel was still puzzled. “You’re helping Penelope so much. Did you two make some kind of deal?”
“Yes,” Nina confirmed.
They were now on the same team. Penelope’s success and failure were tied to her. It was as if Nina had become Penelope’s manager, and she could not ignore that responsibility.
Back at the hospital, Nash’s expression was a bit tense. When he saw Nina return, he asked, “Did you go to see Penelope?”
Nina glanced at James, who avoided her gaze, feeling a chill down his spine. He had no choice but to report all of Nina’s movements.
“Yes,” Nina said. “I talked to her for a bit.”
Nash stared at her, sensing there was more to it than just a casual conversation. “Are you interested in the entertainment industry now?”
Nina replied, “Not particularly. It’s work-related. I’ve had professional dealings with her.”
Nash, having heard some things, said, “You don’t need to get involved in other people’s issues.”
Nina looked at him, unsure if he was trying to help Miranda or was just concerned about his company. She could not help but bring it up. “It’s pretty demoralizing for a newcomer to take her role just like that.” Nash dismissed it while flipping through some reports. “Every industry has its harsh realities, especially in entertainment. Even signed actors can be replaced up until the first day of filming.”
From his words, Nina gathered that he was aware of the situation and had tacitly approved it.
“Penelope is talented. She’s a good actress and stays out of trouble. Is this really fair?” Nina’s voice grew more agitated.
Nash looked at her and understood that she was defending Penelope. He responded seriously, “What is fairness? From the moment people are born, life isn’t fair. Some people work hard all their lives and remain ordinary. If life were fair, there wouldn’t be so many poor people.”
“I think it’s unfair that Penelope was replaced,” Nina retorted. “I know it’s your company, and you’re telling me not to get involved to avoid unnecessary complications. But in the end, you’re still favoring her!” “Favoring who?” Nash asked.
Nina turned away. “You know exactly who I’m talking about!”
Nash did not want to argue with her and spoke patiently. “Don’t overthink it. Just stay out of other people’s business.”
“What if I refuse?” Nina asked, locking eyes with him.
