Chapter 320

Nina walked over and took the dress out of the gift bag. It was a dark green evening gown with a flowing skirt and a strapless cut, crafted from luxurious fabric that felt like a dream against her skin. She had been browsing fashion magazines lately and instantly recognized it as haute couture from a top designer.
Although she could not recall the designer’s name, she knew their clothes typically started at a hundred thousand dollars. Suddenly, she remembered the dress Nash bought for Miranda for two hundred thousand dollars.
Glancing at him, she remarked, “That must have cost quite a bit.”
Money was just a number to Nash and what mattered was Nina’s happiness. “I thought it would suit you perfectly when I saw it,” he replied.
“And was the one you bought for Miranda just as fitting for her?” Nina blurted out without thinking, instantly regretting her words. How could she bring up such a sensitive topic, embarrassing them both? She bit her lip, expecting Nash to scold her for being nosy or petty, but instead, there was silence. Confused, she glanced up at him, only to find him smiling.
“Have you been holding onto that for a long time?” Nash asked, walking over to her and taking her cold hands in his. “The money was a loan. She paid me back once she made the money.”
“A loan?” Nina was astonished. “You mean she borrowed it?”
Nash nodded. “Did you really think two hundred thousand dollars was like water to me? Well, I certainly didn’t mind spending it on you.”
At that time, Nina was bothered for quite a while, especially when Miranda used that matter to provoke her, which took her a long time to get over. But now that it was explained, she felt a sense of relief. However, Nash’s care for Miranda and paving the way for her future still made Nina feel uneasy. Oh well. What else was there for her to worry about? Nina pushed aside her petty thoughts once again. Nonetheless, she now found this dress even more appealing than before.
“The dress is beautiful,” Nina expressed her satisfaction. No woman could resist a beautiful dress. She added, “Thank you.”
“If you like it, then it was all worth it,” Nash replied. He had spent the whole evening selecting it.
With her fair skin, any color suited her, and clothes were just the icing on the cake. That evening, they went to the Gibson residence together.
The Gibson residence was not as far from the York residence as she had imagined. The first time Nina met Grandpa George was in the hospital, and she had found it strange. Since Grandpa George and Nash’s grandpa were close, why didn’t Nash visit him more often? She still did not understand.
The Gibson residence was more spacious and simpler than she had imagined. The architecture was predominantly Western-style, and she even spotted a few military vehicles outside. From the symbols on the vehicles, it seemed like they belonged to someone pretty high up, maybe even a colonel or higher. Nina felt a sense of awe and restraint.
Nash held her hand. “Don’t be nervous. This is just a family banquet.”
Nina noticed there were not many cars parked outside and asked, “Didn’t Grandpa George invite more people?”
“He doesn’t like crowds,” Nash explained. “And he especially dislikes the hypocrisy of official gatherings. He only invited family members.”
“Didn’t you mention before that Grandpa George only has one granddaughter?” Nina inquired.
“Yeah,” Nash hesitated for a moment before casually saying, “She’s from the military.”
Grandpa George used to be a commander, highly respected, and even in retirement, the military would not forget him. With only one granddaughter, those military personnel were his family.
