Chapter 630

“How can I not work hard? Are you going to support me?” Nina asked jokingly.
Yvonne patted her chest. “I’ll support you.”
She answered so straightforwardly, and her generosity made Nina smile even more. “It’s so good to have you. But everyone needs dreams,” Nina replied.
Yvonne then asked, “Haven’t you made up with Nash yet?”
Nina paused for a moment. “There’s no way we’re getting back together.”
Yvonne looked even more puzzled. “That doesn’t sound right. Is it really over this time?”
Although she knew about their divorce, Yvonne had still held onto a sliver of hope that there was a chance for them to reconcile.
“What are you thinking? It’s been over for a long time,” Nina said with a laugh.
Yvonne grew serious. “You’re carrying his child, and he breaks up with you? Does that make any sense? Is he not taking responsibility for the baby? There must be something I don’t know about. This just doesn’t add up!” Nina did not want to dwell on it. “It doesn’t matter anymore. I haven’t seen him in ages.”
Yvonne did not like seeing Nina this way. She was throwing herself into her work, sacrificing everything.
What if this gamble didn’t pay off?
What would she do then?
Would she and the baby just suffer?
The thought made Yvonne angry at Nash. How could he not take responsibility?
How could he leave Nina and their child to struggle alone?
It was hard for her to believe their relationship had deteriorated so quickly. If this was how it ended, she might lose faith in love altogether.
After finishing the soup, Nina noticed Yvonne cleaning up in the kitchen.
She rolled up her sleeve and examined the faint bruises on her arm. Was the poison worsening?
How much longer could she live?
She was not sure, but with the bruises appearing, would the hospital be able to detect the toxins in her body?
Could they determine if the baby was affected?
She had been to the hospital several times, trying to understand her condition, but with no clear results. Clinging to a shred of hope, she decided to go again, without telling Yvonne about the poisoning to avoid worrying her. After Yvonne left, Nina headed to the hospital. Unbeknownst to her, Yvonne had followed.
Yvonne had noticed that Nina had changed, becoming much thinner than before. If it were just because of heartbreak over Nash, she had not seen Nina look this way before even after years of emotional turmoil. Plus, with Wilfred asking her to look after Nina, she could not help but worry even more.
She was shocked to see Nina going to the hematology department instead of obstetrics. Yvonne immediately made a call. “Nina is in danger. She’s at the hospital now. If you have any conscience left, come see her one last time!” She hung up before the person on the other end could respond.
Meanwhile, Nina had given a significant amount of blood. Feeling dizzy, she lay on a bed surrounded by medical equipment for various tests. The smell of disinfectant made her feel nauseous, but she held it back with her pale face. She was anxious and worried that the poison might affect the baby. She kept touching her belly, fearing the worst. If the baby was affected, would she have to terminate the pregnancy?
She could not bear the thought after feeling the baby move for the first time. The idea of losing the baby was unbearable.
As her mind raced, she heard a voice.
“Nina!”
