Chapter 463

“No…,” Sally protested, “you’re still my son. I regret it, and I’ve been trying my best to make it up to you…”
“I no longer need that,” Nash said, his gaze icy. “Calling you ‘mom’ was my greatest concession. You should consider yourself lucky!”
Sally could not help but step back, her voice trembling with emotion. “You can’t treat me like this. You can’t be like your father. Otherwise, what’s the point of bringing you back?”
Nash’s tone remained cold. “The only point was to win back my father’s heart. Unfortunately, all efforts were in vain!”
Every word hit Sally like a dagger to her chest.
Back then, her marriage to William was, to put it rather ironically, nothing but her forcing herself into it. William did not love her. In fact, he despised her. She thought that once they were married, he would be hers. Afterall, what’s done was done.
But she was too naive. William could stay out all night, leaving her alone. To win back his heart, she made countless efforts, even trying to conceive his child. She knew he loved sons. She thought if she bore him a son, he would love her, and he would come back to her. Her family would be whole again.
Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. She could only adopt a son, who was Nash. But William’s heart was too cold. Even if she gave birth to a son, he never looked at her favorably. Not only that, he did not even care for his own son.
Every day was spent in disappointment, and Sally blamed all the responsibility on the infant in the cradle. She began to mistreat him, even withholding food, wanting to starve him to death.
Sally paid no attention to whether Nash lived or died. Fortunately, Zoe discovered it. She took Nash away, freeing him from such an environment.
“I regret it. I shouldn’t have treated you that way.” No matter how Sally treated Nash in the past, she had now realized her mistakes.
With her husband’s indifference, her thoughts turned to her son, hoping he would be good to her. “I know I was wrong. I will never do it again. Please don’t hold a grudge against me!” Tears streaming down her face, Sally grabbed Nash’s arm, seeking forgiveness. However, in Nash’s eyes, the time when he needed her most had passed, and he knew who his true savior was.
He took Sally’s hand and said calmly, “Even without me, don’t you still have another child? You should treat her better.”
“No, I only have you as a son!”
Miranda rushed over and saw Sally’s humble demeanor, as if pleading with Nash. It was the first time she had seen Sally so at loss.
Regardless of whether she heard their conversation, she immediately said, “Nash, don’t blame Sally. It’s all my fault. I should have stopped Sally, then Zoe wouldn’t have fallen down the stairs. It’s all my fault…’ As she spoke, she slapped herself.
“Miranda.” Sally immediately grabbed her hand. “It was my impulsive behavior. It has nothing to do with you. Don’t blame yourself. What if your condition worsens?”
“Sally, please don’t stop me. I’m the one who got you into trouble,” Miranda cried.
This only made Sally feel even more distressed.
“You’re at fault, of course!”
