Chapter 936

Nina received no response from the man.
As she moved to remove the mask forcefully, he grabbed her wrist, “Miss, you’ve got the wrong person. I…”
“Then why did you save me?” Nina interrupted him, her voice cold and unwavering. Her piercing gaze fixed on him, taking in his thin lips and dark eyes, exposed beneath the silver mask.
Their close proximity and his familiar build convinced her further. He was Nash.
“Nash, do you realize how cruel you’ve been to me? They told me you were dead, yet you’ve been alive all this time and never contacted me for five years. You never told me about our child. Why are you doing this to me? What am I to you?” Her voice broke as she yelled, unable to contain the rush of emotions.
The man’s lips curled into a cold smile, “Miss, I’m really not the person you think I am. I’m just here on a mission.”
With those words, the man pushed Nina away, putting a deliberate distance between them. Although not far, to Nina, it felt like a chasm had opened up between them.
His towering height of nearly six foot three, along with the familiar build, made it impossible for Nina to believe he wasn’t Nash.
A mission, he said? And it just so happened to bring him to the Yaren tribe and save her?
She had always carried a handgun with her.
This custom weapon, given to her by Wilfred when she went to Salterra, had been her constant companion. Today, it would serve a new purpose. She drew the gun and fired a shot into the ground at the man’s feet. The man’s eyes narrowed in surprise.
Turning to face her, he saw her holding the gun to her own head.
A bitter smile played on Nina’s lips, “If you’re not him, then it won’t matter if I die right here. I’ve spent five years searching for Nash and our child. I’m exhausted.”
Her finger tightened on the trigger.
It was a test, and it shattered his composure.
The moment he rushed towards her, she knew for certain.
It was Nash.
In one swift motion, she removed his mask.
Nash’s face, now exposed, looked both relieved and pained. There was no longer a need for pretenses.
Their eyes met, mere inches apart, but neither moved closer. Tears welled up in Nina’s eyes.
“Nash, why?”
It was the face she had longed to see, though leaner and more defined, with a scar on his forehead.
Nash opened his mouth as if to speak, but words failed him.
Nina strode forward, grabbing his collar and shaking him forcefully. “Speak up! Don’t play dumb! Nash, you’re clearly alive and right here. Why haven’t you come to see me?” And why had Nash’s voice changed so much?
“Nina, I’m sorry. If it hadn’t been for you being in danger, if it hadn’t been for you pointing that gun at yourself, I…” Nash trailed off, noticing the intensity in Nina’s eyes, and fell silent.
