In response to Stella’s request, Mr. Jasper said, “Officers, we can discuss this outside. Miss Nina, please leave. You’re not welcome here.”
Nina looked at Stella who was pretending not to be as domineering and confident as she was at the dock, but rather righteous and assertive. She knew Stella was trying to appear weak and pitiful, making everyone believe she was the victim.
Nina chuckled coldly, “Are you afraid of me, or feeling guilty? Afraid I’ll expose you, or do you think lying in that hospital bed, pretending to be a victim, will stop me?”
Stella harbored a glimmer of hope. After all, there was no evidence against her, and she was more injured than Nina. She could probably get away with it.
But she was also worried about saying too much and exposing herself, especially since this was her first time doing something like this. She just wanted Nina to leave quickly, preferably ending up in jail, so she would not have to be so nervous anymore.
“Mom, please hurry and get her out. I don’t want to see her again!” Stella shook her mother’s hand, urging her to make Nina leave quickly so she could feel at ease.
“Nina, I’ve realized that you’re my nemesis. As long as you’re around, I’ll never get what I want. Only when you disappear can I finally obtain it…!” After Stella finished speaking, a recording began to play.
“It’s just me. There are no cameras here. If it comes down to it, I’ll just pin it on someone else. Pay them off, and they’ll take the blame for me. Nina, you’re still living in your naive world!”
Upon hearing the recording, Stella’s pupils dilated, her face turning pale, and her body trembling.
Nina held a voice recorder, playing back the vicious words Stella had said to her at the dock, capturing every word precisely.
Nina did not bring her phone or wallet, but she had the habit of carrying a voice recorder with her. This was something she had picked up during her time by Nash’s side, always being prepared to take meeting
notes.
Over time, it became part of her daily routine. Little did she know it would come in handy in this situation. During her intense conversation with Stella, she had preemptively recorded their entire dialogue. It was to prevent Stella from escaping responsibility by making excuses.
Compared to surveillance footage, having evidence in her own hands was more concrete, at least it was within her control.
Nina paused the recording and asked, “Do you need to hear more?”
“It’s not real,” Stella panicked immediately, denying, “This recording is fake. She deliberately tampered it to frame me. Don’t believe her, believe me. I’m the victim!”
Stepping out from her mother’s embrace, Stella looked earnestly at the police, hoping to gain their trust. The expressions of the Jasper family changed as soon as the recording was played.
Mrs. Jasper instinctively defended her daughter, “My daughter didn’t do anything. You must believe her. It’s absolutely fabricated by this woman and has nothing to do with my daughter!”
Nina handed the voice recorder to the police. “You can verify if this recording has been tampered with. If it hasn’t, I’ll protect my rights. Judging from their attitude, I won’t mediate, forgive, or seek compensation I just want her to face the consequences she deserves!”
