At the sound of his voice, Nash instinctively furrowed his brows. Something about her tone felt like mockery, but as he looked at Nina across the table, he felt a distance between them. The dining table was not particularly large, but their separation felt vast to him. He spoke in a low voice, “Nina, come a little closer.”
Nina did not refuse him, moving her chair closer to his side and offering him some food. “It’s been a while, why aren’t you eating? Do you think my cooking isn’t good enough?”
Nash watched her scoop food into his bowl, paused for a moment, then looked up at Nina, picking up his utensils. “I’ve already told you before you started cooking, I’ll eat whatever you make.”
In front of Nina, he took a bite of the food she had placed in his bowl, nodding in approval. “Mmm, not bad. You’ve got quite the talent for cooking!”

Her utensils delved into another dish, and she ate delicately. “It’s just okay, not as good as what the helpers make.”
Nash chuckled lightly, never stopping his hand from picking up more food as if he had not eaten in ages. “I think yours tastes even better.”
As Nina appreciated his praise and how he did not pick at her cooking, she felt like they were truly living as husband and wife in that moment.
She looked at Nash for a long time. His refined side-profile and the way he enjoyed the soup made her smile involuntarily, while a peculiar emotion flickered in her eyes.
“You need to eat regularly every day,” Nina advised. “No matter how hectic work gets, you can’t afford to skip meals. Money can be earned gradually, but your health is precious, and you only have one body. If you damage it, it’ll take a lot of time to repair.”
Nash turned to her, his large hand gently caressing her head as he cautiously inquired, “Don’t worry, with you here, no matter how busy I am, you’ll always call me, won’t you?” His life revolved around Nina. She managed most things, and as long as she was there, he had nothing to fret about.
“Yes,” Nina replied, meeting his gaze. “But I can’t stay with you forever. People always depart. I’m here now, but eventually, I’ll have to leave too. There’s no feast that lasts indefinitely.” Nash paused, his expression darkening. “Are you telling me you want to leave?”
Nina smiled. “You already know, don’t you?”
Nash’s expression changed, and the utensils in his hand clattered to the ground. His head felt heavier, and Nina’s face became blurry and indistinct before him.
“You… drugged me?” Nash felt his strength slowly draining away.
Nina remained calm as she poured herself another glass of juice. Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at Nash. “Just a little. It won’t harm you, and it’ll help you sleep well.”
Nash grabbed onto Nina’s sleeve, his vision growing blurrier. He struggled to sit up, gasping for breath. “Can you… not leave?”
Nina met his gaze, seeing his genuine desire for her to stay, but she resolutely pulled his hand away.
“Thank you for taking care of me for these seven years. Even without me, you’ll find another secretary. There’s no one indispensable in this world. You need someone who will take care of you, someone obedient. I believe many people can do that, but I can’t anymore.”
