Nash’s gaze lingered on the bed for a long while, and suddenly, he saw Nina sitting on the bed in her pajamas, looking at him.
A hint of surprise lit up his face, and he was about to move toward her, wanting to embrace her. But she vanished again, and his hand hung in the air, realizing it was just his imagination. Nina had never come back. She had already left.
Regaining his composure, Nash walked over to the closet and opened it, preparing to take a shower and go to bed. Inside, the clothes were neatly arranged, but it was not the same as before. They were not laid out as they used to be, ready for him to grab and wear. The closet was impeccably organized, but it felt empty, devoid of what it once held.
Nash wondered what methods Nina had used to make his life so easy. Despite the same routine, it felt drastically different now.
Closing the closet door, Nash tried to ignore the absence of what used to be there. The loss weighed heavily on his chest, making it hard to breathe.
This bedroom was no longer bearable. He walked out and headed to the study. Using his phone, he played the video, projecting it onto the computer screen.
Nina’s route in the hospital indeed led to the gynecology department. It took her about twenty minutes to come out, holding many slips of paper.
It was not clear what was written on them, but Nash watched as Nina tore the slips to shreds and tossed them into the trash can.
