Just then, with a piece of bread in his hand, Mike felt a crowd gathering around him. He looked up and nearly jumped in surprise, almost dropping his bread. “Mr. York!”
Nash’s imposing figure stood before him, exuding immense pressure. Mike immediately stood up. “Mr. York, is there something I can help you with?”
Nash scrutinized the young man before him, whose age was similar to Nina’s. He asked in a subdued tone, “Are you Mike?”
“Yes,” Mike replied, unsure why Nash had sought him out. He added nervously, “I… haven’t done anything wrong, have I?” He had joined York Corporation with enthusiasm, and being dismissed now would be a devastating blow.
Nash remained silent, leading the way to the general manager’s office. The manager urged Mike, “What are you waiting for? Go in.”
“Right, right,” Mike hurried into the office, feeling the weight of Nash’s presence even in the confined space.
Though he had not interacted much with Nash, he knew enough about his character and demeanor to feel a palpable sense of pressure.
Nash sat casually on the sofa with his gaze fixed on Mike. “Do you know Nina?”
Mike replied, “I was Nina’s college classmate. I know she’s your personal secretary…”
Nash interrupted, “What was Nina doing at the hospital?”
Mike hesitated for a moment. Did the boss really care this much about his subordinates?
To inquire so thoroughly about a hospital visit seemed unusual. Under Nash’s intense scrutiny, Mike dared not say much, but the question caught him off guard.
Then, it dawned on him. He remembered encountering Nina at the hospital last time. Was this related?
Quickly, Mike told the truth, “Nina is pregnant. She’s pregnant!”
As soon as the words escaped Mike’s lips, Nash’s handsome face, which had been gradually calming, took on an ominous expression. His eyes became piercing, as if he were about to strike, and the air around them seemed to freeze.

He continued, “I took some photos. Although they were torn up, I couldn’t piece them together completely, but you can still see it’s an ultrasound of a pregnant woman.”
He handed Nash his phone. The photos were fragmented, but even with the incomplete pieces, it was evident that Nina was pregnant.
Nash clenched his fists, his jaw tight, suppressing his anger. Finally, he knew why Nina had run away.
She was pregnant!
He did not know whose child she was carrying, but she surely did not want to stay by his side. She wanted to fly away with her adulterous lover.
He had been humiliated!
Nash, his expression icy and on the brink of eruption, remained silent. Rising to his feet, he swiftly stormed out, arriving hastily and departing just as quickly.
