Chapter 411
“Men always have a rebellious streak. They tend to look down on the choices made by others. But now, he has a different perspective. Nash is really attentive to Nina!” Hunter thought to himself.
“It couldn’t be the second option,” Nash’s tone was icy. “She has someone else in her heart, and she’s even pregnant!”
With that, Hunter was also taken aback. Pregnant? That couldn’t be right. “Are you sure?” Hunter asked again.
“If I’m not certain, would I tell you?” Nash said in a low voice.
Hunter paused for a moment, then asked, “Are you sure the child isn’t yours?” He hadn’t heard of Nina being close to any other man.
“Nina and I have never been intimate!” Nash asserted.
“I’ve got to hand it to you. I’m impressed,” Hunter concluded. “With such a stunning young wife by your side, and still, you can endure it? If you’re not the one being cheated on, then who else could it be?” Nash’s expression darkened. “Get lost!”
Hunter hung up the phone directly as it was better not to provoke Nash.
Nash’s cigarette had burned out, but the fire inside him hadn’t dimmed. Subconsciously, he glanced up through the car window, towards Nina’s floor. The lights were still on, and she had been crying when she returned to her room just moments ago.
Nash felt even more restless, as if countless ants were gnawing at his heart, making it impossible to relax. He pursed his lips and opened the car door again.
Quincy thought Nash was returning, but when he saw him stepping out of the car to head upstairs, he blurted out, “Mr. York, are you going to see Madam act foolishly…”
As the words came out, Quincy was startled. What was he saying?
He quickly covered his mouth. “No… Madam must be feeling very sad right now. It’s only right for you to go up and comfort her. Maybe a little coaxing will make things better. Happy wife, happy life!” He hurriedly tried to speak kindly.
Nash’s mind was filled with images of Nina on the verge of tears. He couldn’t think much beyond that and didn’t even hear Quincy’s words. When he left, he didn’t close the door. And when he returned, Nina hadn’t come out of her room either.
The chicken soup on the table had gone cold, so he took it back to the kitchen to reheat it. Maybe she wouldn’t be angry and would want to drink it.
It was just regular soup. He wouldn’t add anything to it without her knowledge.
Coming out again, he walked to Nina’s room, gently opening the door. He saw Nina lying on the bed, her face buried in the pillow.
Approaching quietly, he realized she had fallen asleep, with traces of tears still evident on her cheeks, and her nose was red from crying.
She must have cried silently and fallen asleep from exhaustion.
Seeing her in this pitiful state, Nash’s heart softened. He went up to her and helped her adjust her position to make her sleep more comfortable, tucking her in snugly under the covers.
In her sleep, Nina would still whimper softly from time to time.
In the dim light, Nash gazed at her delicate face, her eyelashes still moist with tears. He felt both heartache and a sense of helplessness. With his fingertips, he gently wiped away her tears and caressed her cheek.
“Nash!”
Nina murmured in her sleep, her voice hoarse and barely audible.
Nash leaned closer, wanting to hear what she wanted to say.
“You jerk!”
Nash was rendered speechless.
With her, Nash couldn’t hit or scold her. Even when he was angry, he had to hold back. If he said too much, she would still give him a cold shoulder.
He felt very helpless.
But seeing her looking so worn out, perhaps it was because of the pregnancy and work. In other circumstances, she wouldn’t have been so tense by his side.
Nash gazed at her for a while longer, as if wanting to etch her image into his heart forever. Bending down, he gently kissed her forehead and hoarsely whispered, “Nina.”
