“I’m fine,” Scott walked in, wiping his sweat with a smile. “I rushed over from home so I didn’t even have time to change clothes.”
Looking at him, Nina smiled. “Sit down, I’ll pour you a glass of water.”
“No need, I’ll do it myself!” Scott grabbed it, not wanting her to strain herself. “Is the baby okay?”
Hearing him, Nina sat back down. “Has Leonard already told you everything?”
Scott sipped his water, smiling but not saying a word.
Nina teased, “He tells you everything. I suspect he’s your informant. The moment something happens to me, it’s immediately in your ears.”
“No way,” Scott placed the glass down. “He and I are just good friends. We chat more because we’re classmates.”
“Good then, or else I’d have no privacy left,” Nina joked.
Scott’s gaze lingered on her belly.
“The baby’s fine. There’s been some bleeding but it’s not serious, the doctor told me to rest more,” Nina informed him.
Scott inquired further, “How many months?”
“Over two months,” Nina replied truthfully. “I didn’t know before, so I didn’t tell you. I’ve been cautious, being a first-time mom. I’m inexperienced and prone to mistakes.” Scott gazed at her belly tenderly, then asked, “Is the child Nash’s?”
That question silenced Nina. She did not know whether to speak or not. She had kept this matter hidden, not wanting anyone to know, fearing Nash could not handle the responsibility for the child. Since that was the case, she did not need him to be responsible. She could deny it to Scott, but she did not want to lie to him.
Some people, in her mind, even a small lie about important matters felt like a sin.
Scott also sensed Nina’s dilemma and empathetically said, “It’s okay if you don’t say anything. I understand. You want to divorce Nash, and you definitely don’t want this child to have any connection with him.” Nina did not expect Scott to understand her so well. She smiled, “I don’t know how to describe you. You just know me too well, making me feel like I’d be caught lying to you with just one sentence.” “Don’t worry, even if you lied to me, I wouldn’t expose you,” Scott reassured her.

Scott then made a phone call, his tone as gentle as always, “Aren’t you investigating who the child’s father is? The child in Nina’s belly is mine.”
