Principal Wallace was taken aback, not expecting things to be like this. “I only just found out today. If I said anything inappropriate in the past, please don’t take it to heart.”
He had not forgotten his past attempts to matchmake Nina with Scott, including considering his own daughter.
“You’re overthinking it, Principal Wallace,” Nash said. “It’s late, so I’ll take my leave.”
Principal Wallace, being a cordial person, personally saw them out.
It was already early morning. Nina lay in bed, feeling her stomach growl with hunger. Lately, she had been getting hungry more often. Her cravings had intensified, with a particular fondness for salty and spicy foods. She could handle spicy food much better now.
But she was also very tired and did not want to get up. She tried to sleep through it, curling up under the covers. Suddenly, she heard a noise, waking her up fully. It was the sound of knocking.
She got up to answer the door. Opening it, she found Nash standing there, his tall frame filling the doorway. Nina’s drowsiness vanished.
“What are you doing back here?” Nina thought he would have gone home by now.
Nash replied, “I was worried about you and wanted to check on you.”
“I’m at home. What’s there to worry about?”
Nash glanced at her stomach. “You’re pregnant and living alone. You need to be careful. If you fall or get too hungry, there’s no one to help.”
Living on her own was not the same as being at his place, where she had support.
With that, Nash stepped inside, carrying a bag. Nina immediately caught the scent, making her mouth water. “Spicy tacos?”
Nash nodded slightly. “Yes.”
He unpacked the food and handed her a set of utensils. “Come over and eat.”
Nina found it odd. Nash would never eat this kind of food. He never even touched it but she loved it. The fact that he bought her spicy tacos was surprising.
As she walked over, she asked skeptically, “Did you buy this?”
Nash looked at her. “Who else would?”
She sat down, still puzzled. “You never eat this stuff.”
“You like it, don’t you?” Nash countered.
Nina did not say anything, but she had many questions. She had always avoided eating junk food in front of him, and she never ate street food like this. How did he know?
Seeing her confusion, Nash explained, “Zoe said pregnant women’s tastes change and they get hungry more often. I heard you’ve been craving spicy food. I found out girls love eating this.”
When he went to buy it, the place was crowded with men and women alike, all eagerly choosing their fillings and queuing up. He could not understand the appeal. The smell was strong, filling the entire room with its spicy aroma.
Nina liked it, and he did not mind. But Nash added, “Once in a while is fine, but you can’t eat this often.”
Too much spice and salt could affect her health.
Nina looked at him. Nash calmly unwrapped the food and handed it to her. “Eat.”
She was amazed that he had lowered himself to buy her spicy tacos. “Why did you get this for me? It’s like you read my mind. You used to be so strict about this.”
He had always disliked the strong smell and never wanted her to eat it. She rarely indulged in it.
Nash’s gaze softened, and he said quietly, “Nina, can’t you see? I care about you. That’s why I’m trying to make you happy. Just because I don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s a hard limit for me. I can change for you.”
