Seeing that he really did not remember and had no impression of it, Nina felt a bit disappointed. She shook her head. “No, nothing else.” Nash did not press further. Nina lay down, turning her back to him, avoiding his face. She had noticed his calm expression earlier.
Why didn’t he remember that Zac was him?
Had he completely forgotten this part of his past?
Even if so, he should remember his former name. Where did things go wrong?
The more she thought about it, the more she felt trapped in a dead end. Frustrated, her head ached. She closed her eyes, trying to stop thinking.
Nash tucked her in, watching her for a while until her breathing steadied. Then he quietly left the room.
Taking out his phone, he saw numerous missed calls. He called back, his expression serious.
On the other end, someone reported, “Mr. York, the company’s stock has dropped several points because of the news about Miranda. We couldn’t reach you and didn’t know what to do. We need your decision.”
Nash, who had not had time to address this yet, asked, “Any news from Miranda?”
“None. She hasn’t contacted the company since the negative news broke.”
After considering for a moment, Nash made a decisive call. “If she can’t resolve the negative impact she’s caused, terminate her contract.”
There was a pause on the other end. “Mr. York, are you sure?”
With one hand in his pocket, Nash’s voice was cold. “Her actions have affected not just the company but also my family. She needs to learn a lesson.”
“Understood.”
Miranda’s negative publicity was harming the company. Severing ties with her would minimize the damage and send a clear message. Nash had done all he could for her and had no intention of further protecting her.
Meanwhile, Miranda was at Wilfred’s place, lying on a hospital bed. She had just had surgery and was still recovering. When she received the news, she was in a daze, shocked to hear that the company had given her an ultimatum to fend for herself.
Even the company was not willing to help clear her name or buy media attention to divert the focus. What could she do? Was she just supposed to bear such a reputation?
Clutching her phone, she saw the online comments calling her a “hypocrite” and a “liar,” and it infuriated her.
“You can leave now,” Wilfred said, removing his mask and tossing his gloves in the trash. His tone was indifferent.
Miranda’s expression turned cold, as if covered by a thick layer of frost. “Leave? Where can I go? Even the company isn’t backing me up. I’m being trashed everywhere!” Her voice was filled with despair and unwillingness to accept this outcome.
Pouring himself a cup of black coffee, Wilfred glanced at her and smiled. “Weren’t you with Nash? Didn’t he start an entertainment company for you? He should be supporting you.” Clenching her fists, Miranda let out a bitter laugh. “An entertainment company for me? Maybe at first, but people change. Now that I’ve caused trouble, no one will stand by me.
“They’re all the same!” Miranda shouted. “None of them can tolerate me!”
Wilfred remained silent, watching her.
“No, I can’t let this defeat me. If I can reach the top again, no one will look down on me!” Determined, Miranda got out of bed. She knew she could not rely on anyone but herself now. Seeing her about to leave, Wilfred said, “I’ll see you out.”
Miranda did not respond.
She had to find a way to deal with the current scandal on her own.
