Some models were already walking the runway, and several celebrities were seated in the audience. Nina was busy looking for the best angles to take photos.
“Miss Walker.”
She turned around at the sound of her name and saw Penelope behind her. She looked around. It was all staff here, while the celebrities were in the main area. “Ms. Zimmerman, what are you doing here?” Penelope responded warmly, “You don’t need to call me Ms. Zimmerman, just call me Penelope.”
Nina had a good impression of her. “What are you doing out here? You should be in the main area. It’s all staff here. You might get mobbed by photographers!”
She knew how crazy reporters could be. Penelope being out here like this was risky for her safety.
Penelope seemed unconcerned, glancing at the reporters and photographers who were focused on other celebrities. “Do you see anyone paying attention to me?”
Nina looked around and realized they were all either photographing the runway or some well-known actresses. She understood that Penelope was not as popular as she used to be.
Nina was not sure if she had hit a sore spot, but she wanted to be considerate. “But you’re still very beautiful. We’ll take some photos of you later.”
“Thank you,” Penelope replied with a relaxed smile.
Her assistant, who was with her, added, “Ever since Penelope played a supporting role to Miranda, Miranda’s popularity soared while Penelope’s fell. She hasn’t been getting good roles, and she refuses to take on bad ones, so she’s been on hold.”
Her assistant seemed more worried than Penelope herself, fearing she would be forgotten.
Nina looked at Penelope who was still maintaining her smile.
Penelope asked, “Why did you become a reporter? I remember you used to work with Mr. York. Did you switch jobs?”
“Yes, I did,” Nina replied.
“Make way, make way! Miss Miranda is coming through!”
Suddenly, Miranda emerged from the backstage, as glamorous as ever. Despite her declining fame, she always made a grand entrance, accompanied by seven or eight assistants. In big events, she ensured everyone knew she was the favored rising star.
Penelope’s assistant looked displeased, but Penelope moved aside to let them pass.
Miranda had been making headlines lately. Despite some negative press, reporters loved any buzz around her. Being controversial was better than being irrelevant.
Nina watched as Miranda was surrounded by a crowd, with people frantically taking her photos. Though Miranda appeared to be trying to hide, her expression was perfectly controlled. Even when avoiding the cameras, she managed to present her most beautiful angles.
“Miss Miranda, over here!” a famous magazine photographer called out.
Miranda was adept at reading the room and was aware of the magazine’s prestige. She knew that a good shot from them could boost her image, so she looked up, offering a perfect shot. Even a simple glance when captured by a professional photographer, could be stunning.
As long as she had attention, she could regain her footing in the industry.
Nina observed the scene and couldn’t help but think that Miranda was like an unbeatable cockroach. Even when her reputation was tarnished, she could still find a way to rise again.
