She could not accept being outdone by Penelope and convinced herself that Penelope must have used underhanded tactics.

Despite the gruesome scene, his expression remained calm, the vibrant red of the blood making his pale skin stand out even more.
The red-haired woman sat on a nearby chair, legs crossed, watching the autopsy with casual interest. She touched her chin and smiled at him. “We’ve got a new task.”
He spoke in a detached tone, “What task?”
“Dissecting a pregnant woman,” the red-haired woman replied.
He paused briefly. “Has it really gotten this twisted?”
She reclined in her chair. “What haven’t you seen in your line of work? To you, humans are no different from the rabbit on your table.”
He continued his work. “When?”
She pulled out a pocket watch and glanced at it. “This afternoon, I suppose.”
