“I still remember when you were a bit shorter than me, and now you’re a head taller. You’ve grown into quite a handsome man. Seeing you makes me as happy as if I were seeing my own son,” Mark said, patting Nash’s shoulder and looking him up and down.
In the past, Nash had been under Mark’s guidance.
Back then, Mark was not yet a colonel, just a small squad leader.
They had shared life-and-death experiences, forming a deep bond.
Even though Nash had left the military for many years, they both remembered the old camaraderie.
Given their age difference, Nash could have been Mark’s son, and Mark regarded him as such.
They chatted for a while, reminiscing about past experiences. When the moment was right, Nash said, “I came because I need your help with something.”
Mark immediately responded, “Whatever you need, just say it. If I can help, I will. But I have to ask, do you have any plans to return to the military?”
He hoped Nash would consider staying.
“I’m not considering that for now,” Nash replied, without the inclination to return.
Mark sighed and asked, “What do you need help with?”
“I need to find someone.”
Nash had been searching tirelessly for a man named “Zac,” even though he suspected the man might not exist.
He was more inclined to believe that this man did not exist.
But then there was the issue of the child in Nina’s belly.
If this man had truly deceived Nina, Nash would make sure he paid the price.
And Nina would need to terminate the pregnancy.
Having a child under such dubious circumstances was harmful to her.
Nash’s eyes grew cold.
Mark’s efficiency was swift. As soon as Nash made the request, he immediately had someone start working on it.
Nash had never asked him for help before.
This was a request he could not refuse.
“Here’s a list of people with ‘Zac’ in their names,” Mark said that afternoon. “These are from the capital. See if any of them are the person you’re looking for.” Nash scanned the list. The ages did not match, and none of them were from the capital.

This man might truly not exist.
“What do you need this person for?” Mark asked, curious.
Nash did not elaborate. “It’s a personal matter.”
Mark did not press further but added, “I need to tell you something else. That person is coming out.”
Nash paused and looked up at Mark, immediately understanding. “Wasn’t he sentenced to death?”
Mark’s expression turned serious. “He appealed, and everyone connected to the case committed suicide. All the leads were cut off, and he was declared innocent!”
The case had dragged on for seven or eight years. In the end, it became an unsolved case. Even the evidence was destroyed.
Nash frowned deeply, clenching his fists. The atmosphere grew tense. “When will he be released?”
“Next month,” Mark replied. “So many women and children were harmed. I really want to execute him myself but even so, the charges won’t stick to him. That’s why I need you back. Only you can put him back in prison and catch the real mastermind.”
Nash remained silent.
Returning would not benefit him much.
As Ben had said, there were no more girls in need of his rescue.
