She came in carrying a lot of things. When Nina saw Yvonne, she felt as if she were seeing an angel and immediately hugged her. “Thank goodness you came. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to sleep well tonight.”
“What’s going on?” Yvonne asked. “No wonder Nash called me and asked me to come check on you. Something must have happened.”
Nash would not have asked her to check on Nina for no reason.
She was worried and came over right away.
“He called you?” Nina was a bit surprised.
Yvonne replied, “Nash must be tied up and couldn’t come himself, so he asked me to keep you company.”
She touched Nina’s face. “Look at you, you’re pale. Did something scare you?”
Nina held her hand and explained, “I don’t know who I’ve offended, but I was almost kidnapped today.”
“What?” Yvonne was shocked. “Why didn’t you tell Nash? If he knew, he would have made sure the kidnapper was caught. And why would someone want to kidnap you? Think about it, who could you have offended?”
Nina thought for a moment. Since marrying Nash, she had made quite a few enemies, both at work and in life. “We’d have to investigate them one by one.”
“How did you get away?” Yvonne asked.
Nina immediately thought of Wilfred, which only added to her confusion. She could not figure out if he was a friend or foe. “Do you remember Wilfred?” “Of course, I remember.”
“He saved me.”
Yvonne’s eyes widened, then she smiled. “See, I told you he cares about you. He saved you at a critical moment.”
“Don’t you think it’s strange?” Nina asked her. “How could it be such a coincidence that he lives next door and just happened to save me?”
She did not believe it at all.
Yvonne thought about it. “But he didn’t hurt you, right?”
“What if it’s all an act to gain my trust?”
“Why would he want to gain your trust?” Yvonne asked.
“I don’t know. It just doesn’t seem that simple,” Nina said, shaking her head.
She could not let her guard down around Wilfred.
Seeing Nina lost in her thoughts, Yvonne quickly said, “Eat something. You’re pregnant, and you need to eat small, frequent meals to stay nourished for the baby. I can see your belly is starting to show.” Nina looked down at her belly and gently touched it. “Yes, I can’t let anything happen to the baby.”
That was her biggest worry.
She wasn’t alone anymore. She had to think for two.
“I’ll stay with you for the next few days,” Yvonne offered.
Yvonne was worried about her. Pregnant women were often more vulnerable and tended to overthink.
“Won’t this interrupt your work?” Nina asked.
“Work can wait. I’m more worried about you,” Yvonne replied. “I can’t relax until Nash comes back.”
Nina bit her lip. “Why did you have to mention him?”
Yvonne said, “Look, he’s not here, and you were almost kidnapped. People will choose the right time.”
Nina thought she made a good point.
The situation must be more complicated than it seemed. Otherwise, so many people would not have gotten involved.
Meanwhile, Sally was waiting at the entrance, holding two thermos bottles. Her eyes were fixed on the door until Miranda’s assistant came out.
With a smile, she asked, “Ruby, how is Miranda doing? Last time she left my house without saying a word, and I was so worried. I’ve been calling her for days, but no one answers. Is she alright?”
