Nina nodded. Nash had just finished his IV drip and was ready to eat together.
In the hospital room, Nash had prepared a hearty meal specifically tailored for a pregnant woman. He opened the lid and handed a bowl of soup to Nina.
She took a sip and found it delicious, even better than her own cooking. Her appetite had been quite good lately.
Nash sat across from her. Nina picked up a piece of meat, tasted it, and found it too gamey. “This isn’t good. You can have it.” She tossed it into Nash’s bowl and continued drinking her soup.
Nash looked at the food in his bowl, then at Nina. He noticed how casually she relied on him for things she did not want, which made him feel needed. A smile crept onto his lips. “Alright, I’ll eat anything you don’t like.”
He ate what Nina did not want. Nina did not think much of it. It was just a natural action from her.
After finishing her meal, she noticed that Nash had eaten everything she had left. She was a bit surprised and asked, “Why are you eating my leftovers?”
Nash replied, “What’s wrong with eating your leftovers? Didn’t we agree that anything you don’t want, I can have?”
Nina did not respond but felt a warmth in her heart. For someone like Nash, who had always been pampered, to eat her leftovers was quite surprising. It seemed like things were moving in a positive direction. As she watched him eat slowly, Nina found it sweet rather than strange. She smiled and asked, “Can you really eat things you don’t like?”
Nash replied, “If you give it to me, then there’s nothing I don’t like.”
“You really know how to talk.”
“I’m telling you the truth,” Nash said, his deep eyes fixed on hers. “Anything you give me becomes the best.”
Nina looked into his eyes, feeling a bit shy. Despite being married for so long, they had rarely interacted like this, and it was slightly awkward. She could not think of a quick response.
Nash poured her a glass of juice and handed it to her. “Have some juice.”
Nina took the glass, but suddenly…
“Bang!”
The glass slipped from her hand and spilled juice all over her dress. Both were surprised by her reaction.
Nash quickly reassured her, “It’s okay, I’ll clean it up.”
He stood up and helped her, wiping the juice off her dress.
Nina frowned, feeling strange. She had held the glass but still dropped it. She stared at her hands, wondering what was wrong.
Nash carefully wiped her clean, but the juice was sweet and a bit sticky. He said, “I’ll have someone bring you a new outfit later. Don’t worry about it.”
Seeing Nina’s expression of guilt, Nash gently comforted her.
Nina looked up at Nash and asked, “Am I sick?”
“Of course not,” Nash said, touching her face. “Breaking a cup once in a while is normal. It brings good luck.”
Maybe he was right, Nina thought. She decided to stop overthinking it.
Nash affectionately patted her head. “Do you want to eat anything else?”
“Something sweet,” Nina said softly. “Strawberry cake.”
“Okay.”
Nash snapped his fingers and pulled out a strawberry cake from the cabinet.
