Nina suddenly felt a wave of pity for Penelope. Growing up without parental love must have left her with a deep sense of insecurity, making her more likely to endure hardships silently.
Unable to help herself, Nina linked her arm with Penelope’s. “It’s all in the past. Things will get better from now on. One day, you’ll reach the pinnacle of your career.”
Penelope smiled. “You have high hopes for me.”
“If you could endure so much from a young age, there’s nothing you can’t achieve.”
Penelope felt a growing fondness for Nina. Perhaps it was the encouragement that stirred a renewed determination within her. She could not go back to the past. She had to escape poverty and hunger.
Just then, Miranda arrived. She spotted Penelope and Nina together. Seeing Nina walking around energetically, showing no signs of weakness, confused her.
But her sharp eyes noticed the beads on Nina’s wrist, and her expression changed. She rushed over and grabbed Nina’s arm.
“Where did you get these?” Miranda demanded.
Nina, startled, turned to see Miranda. She immediately shook off her grip and replied coldly, “What do you want?”
Miranda pressed on, “Answer me! Where did you get these beads? What did you do to get them?”
“Why should I answer you?” Nina retorted coldly as she glared at her. “You’re not that important!”
“These beads belong to Wilfred,” Miranda sneered, already knowing the truth. “I wondered why he was helping you. So, you two have a connection!”
Nina began to worry. If Miranda was connected to those people, could Wilfred be in danger?
She decided to be cautious. “What are you talking about? I got them from a religious store!”
Miranda’s eyes narrowed as she looked at Nina’s wrist, a smirk forming on her lips. “It doesn’t matter whose they belong to, as long as things don’t go smoothly for you.”
“What do you mean by that?” Nina had a bad feeling. “If you have something to say, just say it. Stop being so mysterious!”
Miranda crossed her arms, feeling much better now that everything was going according to her plan.
She said, “You’ll find out soon enough. Nina, I’ll take everything from you. Just wait and see, I will be the ultimate winner!”
Nina’s brows furrowed, and she clenched her fists.
Penelope, standing nearby, spoke up, “The fight isn’t over yet. Isn’t it a bit early to declare victory?”
Miranda shifted her gaze to Penelope. “You? Do you think I’m afraid of you? I can take your resources easily, let alone anything else! No matter how hard you work for the next ten years, you’ll still be beneath me!”
She was not afraid of Penelope.
Penelope was also provoked to anger, clenching her fists tightly. In the next second, she charged at Miranda.
Miranda, anticipating a confrontation, pushed Penelope away forcefully.
“Ah!” Penelope fell to the ground, her palm scraping and bleeding. “Miranda, I have no grudge against you. Why do you have to despise me so much?”
