“I can teach you,” Nash offered.
Nina’s mood brightened. “Great! Then I don’t have to find a teacher, I’ll just learn from you.”
“Let’s talk about it later,” Nash said. “You’ve been cooped up in the hospital for a while. Let’s go out and have some fun.”
Nina linked her arm through his and said in her playful voice. “I want some candy apples and donuts.”
“You sure love sweets.”
“Well, I’m pregnant. My cravings change all the time.”
It was a rare opportunity for Nina and Nash to spend time together. She felt happy and content, a feeling she had not experienced before. She wished this happiness could last forever.
James drove while they sat in the back. The motion of the car made Nina feel tired, and she soon leaned against Nash’s shoulder.
Seeing this, Nash gently supported her head, letting her rest more comfortably. Eventually he placed her head on his lap.
Normally, Nina would wake up, but this time, she seemed deeply asleep.
This worried Nash. He feared the day might come when she would not wake up at all.
Watching her pale face, he frowned slightly while holding her tightly.
“Captain, we’re here,” James said.
Not wanting to wake her, Nash softly instructed, “Drive around a bit more.”
“Okay.”
After three more loops, Nina finally woke up.
“Are we there yet?” she asked as soon as she opened her eyes.
“Yes,” Nash replied.
Nina checked the time. “Why did it take so long?”
“There was traffic.”
“Let’s get out then.”
Nina opened the car door and stepped out first. The town square was bustling with people and vendors, and a 3D screen on the main street was displaying advertisements. “There are candy apples!” Nina spotted them immediately.
Nash followed her gaze and, seeing her excitement, teased affectionately, “You look like a child.”
“Are you calling me childish?” Nina pouted.
“No, I think you’re very cute,” Nash said, holding her hand as they walked over like any ordinary couple.
“I want a candy apple,” Nina insisted.
“Got it,” Nash replied, quickly buying her one.
Nina took a bite, enjoying the sweet taste. “Try it,” she said, offering it to him.
“I don’t eat these,” Nash replied.
“You must try it,” she insisted.
Unable to resist her insistence, Nash took a bite. It was not bad, but it was not something he particularly liked. Still, seeing Nina happy made it more appealing to him. “Tastes good, right?” Nina said, smiling. “The sweetness is just right. I really like it.”
“As long as you like it,” Nash said.
“I want to try those donuts and that over there…”
Nina wanted to try everything she saw along the way, even though some stalls had long lines. The aromas were tempting. No matter how long the line, Nash was willing to wait for her. As Nina waited nearby, she noticed Nash chatting with the people in front of and behind him in line.
“Buying for your girlfriend?” one of them asked.
“You too?” replied the person in front.
“Yeah, I am,” came the answer.
Then they both turned to Nash. “You too?”
Caught off guard, Nash hesitated before replying, “Yeah.”
The person in front started to complain. “Why do women always want these things? Can’t they eat something else? Standing in these long lines is such a pain.”
“What’s so great about it anyway? Women are so picky. Here we are in the cold, spending money just because they like to waste it,” the person behind added. Hearing them complain about their wives, Nash could not help but retort, “Loving your wife brings good fortune!”
