Her gaze fixed on Nash as she asked, “Is it true?”
Nash’s deep eyes turned cold, locking onto Nina’s almost broken expression, yet he remained silent.
Nina pressed on, “Are you with Miranda? Tell me, is it true? I only believe you!”
Nash remained silent again.
Nina’s eyes reddened, holding on to the last shred of hope. “If you tell me that it’s all a lie, I won’t hold it against you. Even if I saw you with her, even if I saw her holding your hand, I’ll believe you have a reason. I’ll believe you, but why won’t you speak? Say something, give me a bit of hope.”
The more she spoke, the more heartbroken she became. It felt like his proposal, his love, was all just her fantasy. When the dream ended, she had to face the reality that he did not love her.
She had truly felt happiness. The man she had secretly loved for years finally chose her, and her efforts over the years had not been in vain. She really believed that.
But why had everything changed today?
Tears streamed down Nina’s face, a mix of despair and heartbreak. Nash clenched his fists, his hands trembling as he suppressed his emotions. He did not want to see Nina cry, not even a single tear. It pained him.
Nash looked into the distance, avoiding her eyes. After she finished speaking, he forced himself to say coldly, “Nina, let’s get a divorce.”
Miranda’s lips curled into a smug smile. She finally witnessed it!
They were finally going to divorce!
Nina’s heart plummeted into an abyss, her soul seemingly leaving her body. She stared at him, thinking she must have misheard. Forcing a smile, she asked, “What did you say?”
“Let’s get a divorce,” Nash repeated with difficulty.
Nina had not misheard. She was just overthinking it.
Nash wanted a divorce. The words that Nina had often spoken were now coming from him. They had not even been happy together for long.
Nina continued to laugh bitterly. “Are you serious? You rushed into marriage, and now you want to rush into divorce? What was the point of your proposal then? You said you would love me forever, that I would always be your wife. You staged such a grand proposal that the whole city knew, and now you tell me you want a divorce? Was it all a lie?”
“It was to compensate you,” Nash said briefly. “To put a period on our three-year marriage.”
It was the most absurd thing Nina had ever heard. He said his declaration of love was compensation, and so was his proposal. It was too ridiculous.
Nina laughed out loud, staring at him. “Nash, when will you be reliable? Stop giving me hope only to crush it. It’s worse than killing me. Don’t you know I’ve loved you for more than three years? It’s been many years. I’ve been chasing after you all this time, and what did you give me? Pain, endless pain. How can you be so cruel? Can’t you have a little sympathy for me?”
This felt like a cruel game to her. How much more would she have to endure?
“After the divorce, let’s not see each other anymore,” Nash said in a deep voice. “You can hate me.”
“How can you say that!” Nina shouted, her emotions boiling over. “Don’t you know I’m carrying your child?”
