Wilfred was always decisive and had no intention of letting Scott go.
However, he hesitated, considering whether Scott’s words were trustworthy and if he could be a reliable ally. Their struggle made a lot of noise in the room.
Feeling somewhat better, Nina woke up and saw them grappling with each other. “What are you two doing?” she asked.
With his back to Nina, Wilfred blocked Scott from view, preventing her from seeing the fight.
She had no idea they were actually in a confrontation.
“Scott?” Nina called out, having glimpsed his figure.
Hearing her, Wilfred released Scott and quickly hid the scalpel.
Scott, understanding the situation, smiled as if nothing had happened. “Nina, you’re awake.”
Nina sat up. “Why are you here?”
Scott, holding the gifts he brought for her, replied, “I came back from a business trip and didn’t find you at home. I guessed you might still be at work, so I came by. Here, these are for you.” He handed her a champagne rose and a box of chocolates.
“Thank you,” Nina accepted them and then looked at Wilfred. “You’re here too? What were you two doing? It looked like you were about to fight.”
Scott quickly answered, “It’s our first meeting. We were just being cautious and talked a bit.”
Nina glanced at Wilfred, worried he might be uncomfortable since he rarely interacted with others. “Well, let me introduce you. This is my old friend, Scott. And this is Wilfred, my new friend.” Scott extended his hand to Wilfred, maintaining a friendly demeanor. “Nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you,” Wilfred replied with a nod. “Apologies for earlier.”
“No problem,” Scott responded.
Scott looked at Nina and immediately noticed the changes in her. She seemed thinner, which was unusual for a pregnant woman who should be gaining weight. It was as if she was being drained instead.
“I’m done for the day,” Nina said, not paying attention to their expressions. “Let me clean up, and you two wait outside.”
The men left the office quietly.
Before heading home, Nina copied all the materials related to Nelly’s drama onto her drive, intending to review them later.
Outside, Scott turned to Wilfred with concern. “What’s going on with Nina? She doesn’t look well. You still haven’t answered my questions. Is she in trouble? Why did she and Nash divorce? What happened between them?” Although he had not seen Nina recently, he was aware of her relationship with Nash. He knew about the proposal broadcast and the news about Nash and Miranda.
Even though Nina’s face wasn’t shown during the proposal, he knew it was her. At that moment, he was on a plane, and despite seeing the broadcast, he was genuinely happy for her.
He had thought she would be happy forever and had planned to keep his distance, respecting her happiness.
But then after a few days, Nash’s scandals emerged, and everything seemed off.
Wilfred hesitated, unsure how much to reveal to Scott. “Even if you knew, what could you do? It won’t change the situation.”
Scott stopped walking. “It’s not just you who can help Nina. I can too.”
Wilfred’s lips curved into a slight smile. “Even if it costs you your life?” Scott paused, then frowned. “Yes.”
Wilfred’s brown eyes darkened. “She’s been poisoned. There’s no cure.”
Scott’s heart sank. “No cure? How can there be no cure… No wonder she looks so unwell. I saw that you were letting blood earlier. Is that how you’re alleviating the poison in her body?”
“I can only temporarily relieve her pain. The poison itself can’t be cured. Even if there’s an antidote, it’s not here,” Wilfred said, furrowing his brows.
